All the fine details of Ango's appearance follow a unified concept:

These accessories create the image of a practical intellectual — a person who keeps everything under control but doesn't flaunt it. They complement his ability “Reasoning on Decadence”, emphasizing the connection with memory, archives, and the analysis of details.

Discourse on Decadence (堕だ落らく論ろん,, Daraku-ron?) is an ability that allows the user to read the memories left in things, a memory extraction ability.

Despite being useful, this ability can put a significant amount of mental strain if the user had yet become accustomed to it. Ango confirmed this had happened in the past when his brain temporarily surrendered consciousness in order to sort an influx of large information gained from his ability.

For the most part, Ango is a composed, calm young man, showing more restraint than Osamu Dazai and more discipline than Oda Sakunosuke. Although he values ​​both as friends, he strongly believes that Dazai needs someone genuine to keep him from acting out as much as he does.[3]

Despite being a spy for the Special Division for Unusual Powers, Ango takes his role as their informant seriously. This includes his efforts recording the lives of deceased mafiosi after the Dragon's Head Conflict incident. He records everything from their background to family lives, and makes sure all close relatives are aware of their deaths, but is careful not to let on their connections to Port Mafia. As such, Ango values ​​life a great deal.

When his true intentions are revealed in Bar Lupin, Ango struggles to remedy the strain and tension that arises between him and the other two. However, after being shut down by both Dazai and Oda, Ango respectfully withdraws.[4]

Even after their fallout, Ango continues to respect Dazai, albeit appears even more exhausted by Dazai's theaters and conniving ways than ever before.

He is a tall man with short, dark hair that has the bangs cut so they regularly show his eyebrows, and lightly-colored eyes behind circular framed glasses (though his hair is portrayed as somewhat messier in the anime). His most notable feature is a mole above his lip on the left side of his face.

His normal attire consists of a pale brown double-breasted coat which is buttoned to the left, covering a tab collared shirt with a kobicha brown tie. His pants are the same color as his coat, with his shoes being roughly the same color as his tie.

Tsujimura's ability, Yesterday's Shadow Tag (きのうの影かげ踏ふみ,, Kinō no Kagefumi?), summons the "Shadow Child" (影の仔,, Kage no Ko?), an ability-derived life-form lurking in her shadow that takes up the ambiguous form of a bipedal, goat-horned beast with a black scythe.

Similar to Kyōka Izumi's case,[9] Tsujimura's mother transferred her ability to her but, as an autonomous ability, is not her own. Therefore, Tsujimura does not have complete control over it and only follows the command placed on it by her mother, which is to "murder anyone Tsujimura tries to kill."[1] In essence, Tsujimura's ability will activate immediately when she wants to kill someone, and the Shadow Child will slaughter them faster than she can kill them, thus making Tsujimura unable to kill anyone herself.

Tsujimura is very dedicated to her job and respectful to her seniors. She also considers herself confident in her job and even describes her performance as top-notch and having more drive than anyone, bringing up that her peers see as a “woman of mystery.” She also sets goals for herself, telling herself that she needs to catch up to a movie heroine, a spy who wears biker jacket and glasses, as soon as possible.[2] Ayatsuji also once noted that Tsujimura is never late in her job without a reason.
Though Tsujimura appears as a kind and woman, she is slightly genuine gullible at times, as shown when Ayatsuji tricked her into making him coffee in exchange for showing her respect. Ayatsuji also describes her as an agent who is "easy to handle,"[7] and both he and Ango concur that she is "too easy to read." Nevertheless, she has a strong will and determination, from accepting the job as Ayatsuji's minder despite the latter's notoriety in terms of his ability and attitude, to taking up the role as a detective during Ayatsuji's absence amidst complicated circumstances and even solving them herself without external aid, and to refusing her superiors' orders by attempting to save Ayatsuji's life by deciding not to shoot him despite being instructed to.[1]

As Ayatsuji's minder, Tsujimura always displays her strict side when trying to reprimand the detective whenever he does as he pleases, but she constantly struggles to get Ayatsuji to follow protocol, even saying to herself how she often forgets that she is the agent who holds his life in her hands. However, despite constantly being annoyed by Ayatsuji's behavior and theatrics, she respects him highly and lets her guard down whenever he compliments her. Feeling strongly about her duties, she also often gets swept up in the moment.

Tsujimura is a fair-skinned young woman of slender physique. She has lavender, almond-shaped eyes[1] and turquoise hair with bangs parted to the left over her forehead, curled strands framing her face, and the rest of her hair styled in a high bun. She wears light make-up including turquoise eye shadow and pale-colored lipstick. Her usual outfit consists of a white dress shirt, a gray suit coat which she keeps unbuttoned and whose sleeves are folded along her forearms, matching gray slacks, and black heels. Her accessories include a white neck scarf with cyan floral patterns, gray gloves, and a dark gray belt. In other media, she is depicted wearing dark-colored, sheer stockings.

Yukito has resolved over 50,000 cases, and his ability is said to have killed in the billions—making him both feared and sought after by authorities.

He maintains two pet cats and a basement full of handmade dolls he cherishes.

He is the protagonist of the gaiden side story Bungo Stray Dogs Gaiden: Ayatsuji Yukito vs. Kyōgoku Natsuhiko, inspired by the real-life mystery novelist Yukito Ayatsuji who authored Another.

Hired for his uncanny deductive skill and ability, he often works under supervision from agent Mizuki Tsujimura, who is assigned to monitor him closely while he solves cases involving other espers

His supernatural ability is known as Another (Anazā). By uncovering the truth behind a murder and identifying the culprit, Yukito triggers an unavoidable “accidental” death for the criminal—regardless of location, protection, or distance—but only if the culprit is truly guilty. The death's cause is unknown and unpredictable.
This ability makes him one of Japan's most dangerous esper users—assigned special A‑Grade status—and a subject of constant surveillance. Plans to eliminate him are proposed multiple times a week, but are always rejected due to the utility of his ability.

Yukito works as a detective at the Ayatsuji Detective Agency and is temporarily commissioned by the Special Division for Unusual Powers due to his unique, although he's closely monitored ability and restricted by them.

A highly observant and intellectual detective, Yukito presents a cold, emotionally detached, and reserved demeanor. He rarely shows vulnerability or warmth, though he has peculiar hobbies—such as collecting dolls in his basement and keeping two pet cats—with which he occasionally expresses affection.
He is blunt, often calling others naive or foolish, and has zero tolerance for anti‑intellectualism. He enjoys reading, mahjong, and crafting doll figures. Yukito also has specific personal likes and dislikes: he dislikes natto and intellectual laziness, and prefers his coffee with two spoons of brown sugar and no milk.

Yukito is depicted with short wavy blond hair and golden eyes. He wears half-rim light sunglasses, a flat black cap, gray gloves, and carries a smoking pipe and a ball-jointed doll. His outfit consists of an ochre-yellow jacket with a red collar, a white shirt with vermillion checkered trim, a gray knit vest, dull orange checkered knickerbocker trousers, and beige boots.
