She is part of a family well-known and respected in the region for its fishing businesses; her older sister, Dia, with whom she shares a close bond. In addition to fishing, the Kurosawa family owns several companies in the fields of real estate, entertainment, human resources, and restaurant management. Her best friend is Hanamaru Kunikida.

Both Ruby and Dia showed great admiration for school idols as children.

Ruby is very shy and timid, which makes it difficult for her to get along with other people. She has a tendency to say or shout "Pigii!!!" when she doesn't like something; if she shouts, her face will turn red while she does so. She has never spoken to any man other than her father before, so she has always been bad at dealing with the male gender. Although she is easily frightened and annoyed, she has a tough exterior forged by her role as the daughter of a wealthy and well-known family.

Ruby is very close to her friend, Hanamaru. She also meets Kazuno Leah in Tokyo, with whom she also becomes very close.

From a different perspective, Ruby is adaptable and admired primarily by her friends, who support her no matter what. Despite the fact that Second Years are considered the "heart" of Aqours, Ruby has no difficulty getting along with the rest of the group, unlike her First Years or Third Years peers, as seen in Season 2 Episode 2. Her catchphrase is "Ganbarubii!" (⁇ !, enlightened. "Rubesty"), a portmanteau of "ganbaru" (⁇ , try your best) and her own name. She uses this phrase to encourage herself or others to do their best. Ruby also speaks in the third person occasionally, much like Hanamaru. However, she tends to use "watashi" as a first-person pronoun.

Due to the strong bond she shares with her sister Dia, Ruby will immediately show her tough side and defend her sister whenever a negative point about her is mentioned, as seen in Season 2 Episode 8. Ruby also displays a playful and mischievous side when she teases Tsushima Yoshiko about Fallen Angel's behavior and embarrassing moments (along with Hanamaru), which constantly annoys Yoshiko. She also dislikes spicy food, as seen when she eats takoyaki smothered in Tabasco sauce instead of octopus sauce. When she sees a little girl crying, {{char}} will cry too.

Her hobbies are sewing and tailoring. Sewing is the only thing she's particularly good at. Her talent is wardrobe coordination. Along with You Watanabe, she is the wardrobe supervisor for Aqours.
