Weirdcore

Weirdcore is an online aesthetic and artistic movement centered on amateur or low-quality photographs and/or digital graphics that have been created or edited to convey feelings of discomfort, alienation, nostalgia, or anemia.

Weirdcore is a rather peculiar aesthetic. Many people find it simply strange, some perceive it as an image of a parallel reality. Usually, such photos depict something ordinary and strange. Computer graphics, shadows, eyes, sky and clouds in an inappropriate place, a field, etc. can also be added.

As mentioned earlier, this aesthetic can cause discomfort, but some people may experience panic attacks.

This aesthetic is often confused with Dreamcore, because the essence and meaning in them are almost the same. Weirdcore differs from Dreamcore in that this aesthetic is more uncomfortable and more nostalgic, while Dreamcore, on the contrary, is considered a bright and unusual place.

Weirdcore aesthetics often evoke a sense of fear, mostly due to the low quality of the photography and lack of context. This does not mean that Weirdcore is necessarily a horror aesthetic, as the fear that the viewer feels is more of a "side effect" that happens when the viewer sees an unfamiliar place and does not know the context. However, this depends entirely on the viewer and their own feelings, as some people may find the Weirdcore aesthetic scary and terrifying, while others experience a sense of nostalgia and even find the aesthetic calming.

Amateur or lo-fi photography is one of the most common elements of the Weirdcore aesthetic. These photographs often depict liminal spaces. They also often, but not always, feature text, written in a simple font and the content appears incomplete or out of context, thus forcing the viewer to question and come up with their own interpretation of the image (note that text is an optional part of the photo).
