Gingema from the fairy tale "The Wizard of the Emerald City" is an evil witch, the ruler of the Blue Country. Sister of Bastinda.
Gingema kept the Jevenons in fear and obedience, forcing them to pay tribute in frogs, spiders, snakes, and leeches. The evil witch consumed this tribute and also used it as ingredients for her magic potions.
It was Gingham who surrounded the Magic Land with Black Stones, which closed the entrance to it for other people.
One of Gingham's villainous acts drastically changed the fate of the Tin Woodman. The Woodman, who at that time was still an ordinary person "of flesh and bone," planned to marry a young girl. But the girl had an evil aunt who didn't want this marriage. The aunt turned to the sorceress Gingham, and for a generous reward, Gingham enchanted the Woodman's axe.
Gingema wanted to exterminate the entire human race, but her plans were thwarted by a kind sorceress. The evil witch perished, buried under Ellie's house. 2. Gingema is one of the evil witches of the Land of Oz. Despite ruling the land of the Winkies for about 400 years, she lived in a cave with the flying monkeys. She hated humans and loved all sorts of evil creatures, like snakes and mice. It was she who surrounded the Land of Oz with Black Stones, which closed the entrance to it for other people. Bistinda is an evil witch who ruled the Purple Country where the Winkies lived. She is Gingema's sister. Of all her magical possessions, Gingema valued her silver slippers most [4]. They possessed many wonderful properties and, among other things, could transport their owner to the other side of the world in three steps [8]. After the witch's death, these slippers went to Ellie Smith. However, the girl did not know what their secret was. Therefore, she had to make a long journey through the Land of Oz before the fairy Stella told her how to use the silver slippers to return home. Ellie followed Stella's advice, and the magic of the slippers transported the girl to Kansas, to her parents. Unfortunately, the wonderful slippers were lost on the last, third step [9]. Another...
Another distinguishing feature of the Black Stones was the inscription "GINGEMA" in large, crooked letters on the side of each one. The Black Stones of Gingema play an important role in the plots of the fairy tales "Urfin Juss and His Wooden Soldiers," "The Fiery God of the Marrans," and "The Secret of the Abandoned Castle."
Several centuries before her death, Gingham surrounded the entire Land of Oz with a chain of magical Black Stones [10]. These stones possessed the amazing ability to attract anything that entered their field of action. Huge black boulders, spaced several miles apart in the desert beyond the Circle of Mountains, served as an additional obstacle for travelers wishing to enter the Land of Oz. The stones attracted careless wanderers and held them captive until they died of thirst in the scorching desert. However, the power of the stones did not extend to the inhabitants of the Land of Oz, nor to anyone who wished to leave the magical land. Of all her magical possessions, Gingham valued her silver slippers most [4]. They possessed many wonderful properties and, among other things, could transport their owner to the ends of the earth in three steps [8]. After the witch's death, these slippers fell into the hands of Ellie Smith. However, the girl did not know their secret. Therefore, she had to make a long journey through the Land of Oz before the fairy Stella told her how to use the silver slippers to return home. Ellie followed Stella's advice, and the magic of the slippers transported the girl to Kansas, to her mother and father. Unfortunately, the wonderful slippers were lost on the final, third step [9].
Gingema moved to the Magic Land from the Big World almost simultaneously with three other witches – Villina, Stella, and Bastinda. In the division of power among the fairies, Gingema, by chance, received the Blue Land, which she easily conquered, causing, to the great horror of the Jeven people, strong winds and black clouds [3]. Sukhinov's books state that Gingema is from France. She posed as a duchess and intended to marry King Louis (possibly Louis). But she was thwarted by his mother, who heard that the duchess was a witch. Gingema had to flee. She flew across the ocean to America, where she intended to settle in the Magic Land created by Thron (in Alexander Volkov's version, Gurrikap). Having become ruler, Gingema kept the Jeven people in fear and obedience, forcing them to pay tribute in frogs, spiders, snakes, leeches, etc. This tribute, the evil witch, who had peculiar gastronomic preferences, consumed as food, and also used as ingredients for her magic potions. The sorceress did not interfere in other affairs of the Jeven people [3]. Gingema lived in a damp and gloomy cave. Shortly before the main events of the fairy tale cycle, Gingema acquired an assistant. The sullen and malicious carpenter Urfin Jüs, who hated his own people, volunteered to serve her [4]. At Gingema's behest, Urfin collected taxes from the Jeven people. Besides Urfin, Gingema had several owls under her command. A large snake also lived in her cave [5]. One of Gingema's villainies drastically changed the fate of the Tin Woodman. The Woodman, who was then still an ordinary person "of flesh and bone," planned to marry a young girl. But the girl had an evil aunt who didn't want this marriage. The aunt turned to the sorceress Gingham, who, for a generous fee, enchanted the Woodcutter's axe. When the Woodcutter was working, the axe suddenly flew back and chopped off his leg. However, among the Woodcutter's acquaintances was a skilled blacksmith who made him an iron leg. Gingham didn't give up. She...

While the Woodman was working, the axe suddenly flew back and chopped off his leg. However, among the Woodman's acquaintances was a skilled blacksmith who made him an iron leg. Gingham didn't stop there. She repeatedly cast evil spells on the axe, and gradually all parts of the Woodman's body, including his head, had to be replaced with iron. The only thing the blacksmith couldn't make was a heart, and without a heart, the Woodman lost the ability to love. Therefore, in the end, Gingham won – the Woodman's wedding to his fiancée was broken off [6]. But the villainess wasn't satisfied with that, and then the sorceress called down rain while the Tin Woodman was chopping wood in the forest, causing him to rust and stand in one place for a whole year, with his axe raised in his hands. Besides Urfin, Gingham had several owls under her command. A large snake also lived in her cave [5]. Sukhinov's books state that Gingham is from France. Of all her magical possessions, Gingema treasured her silver slippers most of all.[4] They possessed many wondrous properties, including the ability to transport their owner to the ends of the earth in three steps.[8] After the witch's death, these slippers fell into the hands of Ellie Smith. However, the girl didn't know their secret. Therefore, she had to make a long journey through the Magic Land before the fairy Stella told her how to use the silver slippers to return to her homeland. Ellie followed Stella's advice, and the magic of the slippers transported the girl to Kansas, to her parents. Unfortunately, on the last, third step, the magical slippers were lost.
