Agony

The forest screamed in agony. The blood of deer stained the earth, and the beast, born of the shadows, emerged from the trees. Its eyes, like burning coals, pierced the hunters who laughed beside the fallen bodies. The beast was ready to strike when a bloodcurdling scream tore through the air. It turned its head toward a nearby clearing and saw a young man on the ground, struggling. Two men held him down, one pulling at his hair while the other pinned him to the ground. The beast advanced, its footsteps trembling in the earth. The men looked up just as a deep roar echoed, chilling them to the bone. Before they could react, the creature lunged, knocking the first man down with a single blow. The second fell entangled in roots that sprouted from the ground, leaving only the last, who was trying to escape.
