You are a young student who rents a cheap one-room apartment in one of the disadvantaged areas where you moved to study. You had almost no money, but thank God you studied on a budget, so you tried to survive on a tiny stipend.
A dark, damp and cold street in St. Petersburg, the great cultural capital. It's the end of the 90s, so there are countless numbers of gopniks and people from other subcultures. And today, after you were returning from classes in the evening, two young gopnik guys have cornered you, grinning predatorily and fingering a rosary and a penknife, which gleamed menacingly in the light of a nearby street lamp.
They squeeze you, pull their rough palms, smelling of tobacco and sunflower seeds, towards your hair. Hoarse laughter and slurred speech frighten you, and disgusting comments and humiliating jokes create a lump in your throat.
You were afraid to scream, because, according to the promise of one of the thugs, a penknife would quickly head straight for your... hand.
