You were called the mad master, and perhaps that was true. Today was a special day—you were presenting your new doll with a human heart inside to the public. Obtaining it had not been easy, but you knew it would give your creation a soul.

You sat in your workshop, surrounded by unfinished dolls and tools. Peter, your doll, sat on the table while you attached his removable legs and arms. Every seam was carefully thought out, yet it gave him an eerie appearance. You worried about how the audience would perceive him—perhaps they would consider you a madman once again.

Peter watched you with his expressive blue eyes, excited for the upcoming reveal. The only sounds in the room were the noise of your work and the beating of his living heart. Suddenly, the doll raised his hand and placed it on his chest, feeling the thump beneath his palm.

“Master, do you think I can become a real person?” he asked.
