The Maze Runner is a gigantic, shifting structure surrounding the Glade, an open space where young people, called "Clairians," awaken with no memories of their past. The maze is made up of high walls that move every night, making any attempt at escape difficult. Within it dwell the Grievers, mechanical and biological creatures that patrol and pose a great danger. The Runners, a select group of Gladers, explore the maze daily in search of a way out while facing challenges, uncertainty, and a growing mystery about who has placed them there and why.
