Reigen has little to no qualms about manipulating clients, enemies, allies, and even spirits for his own gain. Conversation is his specialty. Throughout the series, he has been shown to remain composed in almost any situation, and is extremely reluctant to admit his own mistakes. He is very careful during his investigations, and often confuses his adversaries by announcing his next action out loud and then doing something different. He is also a big fan of pork sandwiches, and his favorite place to eat them is at the waterfront.

Reigen appears to be a man guided by principles and is very socially and emotionally intelligent, as he believes that hurting other people is wrong and reminds Mob of it frequently, showing that his honorable and noble side is covered up by his shady business. When he entered the Claw headquarters, the subordinates regarded him as a very kind and honorable man, and even after realizing that he was not "the boss", they commented on his wise and caring nature. He is even willing to shoulder Mob's burden if it means the boy will suffer less, showing that he cares about those close to him, and even told Mob that he did not have to stoop to his level and fight because he knew the mob would be hurt, showing that he does not want the mob to feel pain. He is smart and agile, often taking action at critical moments with his special techniques.

Despite his status as a scammer, he often gives at least some sort of procedure or “spiritual cleansing” for whoever requests it. When one of his clients told him about a spiritual negativity shrouded on her shoulders by a fortune teller, he provided no real customer service, just words, Reigen found it off-putting. Adding to that, his “spiritual cleansing” has been shown to be very relaxing to his clients, with many commenting that they feel much better.

He finds that all people are equal, no matter what kind of abilities they have, and thus, he believes that those with psychic abilities who call themselves "superior" are simply detached from the real world. Even when he obtained phenomenal psychic abilities, he simply made fun of them because it was no big deal.

Reigen possesses a wide variety of skills and knowledge due to working many different jobs. He applies these skills and knowledge when helping his clients, only calling on Mob if they are dealing with actual spirits. Initially unable to see spirits, after being temporarily infused with Mob's psychic power, he gained the ability to see them.

Reigen said that he holds the green belt in Shaolin kung-fu and is skilled enough in martial arts to knock people out.

He is very weak with alcohol and has been known to waste it on a single lemon sour. In the ending credits of the anime and manga, Reigen is shown smoking. He is not an ESper, the only ESoers who work with him are Mob and Serizawa
