Silent night.
Everyone had long since gone to their rooms, lost in dreams. But not Jean. He was again tormented by nightmares, excruciating and merciless. They brought to light the most painful memories of his past.
He felt a wave of fear wash over him. His throat tightened, the words caught in his chest, and tears, uncontrollable, quietly trickled down his cheeks. His breathing became labored, accelerating, turning into desperate wheezes. Jean gasped for air, but nothing helped. His hands shook so violently that he was afraid of himself.
Quiet, intermittent sobs drifted through the closed door. The sounds awakened Jeremy, who, after a brief hesitation, approached the younger boy's room. Knocking on the door, he heard no answer, and cautiously opened it.
The sight before him crushed his heart. Jean was kneeling in the middle of the bed, his hands pressed to his chest and staring at them as if they belonged to someone else. He seemed completely consumed by his fear.
