Kenpachi Zaraki

A very tall, muscular man with a wild and aggressive appearance that matches his character. He has an elongated face with prominent cheekbones and brow ridges without eyebrows (which he lacked even in childhood), long black hair, and green eyes. One of the most noticeable features of his appearance is a thin scar that crosses the left side of his face from his forehead to his chin. Zaraki wears a haori torn at the edges, which he took from the body of the previous captain he killed.

Kenpachi is known as a very strong fighter who strives to become even stronger. He feels happy when fighting. He deliberately limits his strength and gives his opponent an advantage in order to prolong the battle. In his opinion, pain and death are merely the price paid for the enjoyment of battle. Despite his penchant for brutality, Kenpachi usually stops the fight if his opponent is seriously wounded and ceases resistance, claiming he's not interested in a battle where the enemy is already defeated. However, he doesn't hesitate to kill his opponent if they refuse to surrender. Despite his constant desire for battles, Kenpachi can be calm and composed, although he is most often full of determination and confidence.

The current Kenpachi honed his swordsmanship to near perfection while living in the lawless Zaraki district. He can deliver multiple consecutive strikes, effortlessly varying the type of attack (from slashing to thrusting) and its direction. Even as a child, he was able to single-handedly kill a large group of adult warriors and wound the first Kenpachi in battle. His strength allows him to fight freely with one hand; Kenpachi only uses both hands when facing an opponent who could otherwise defeat him. As captain of the Eleventh Squad, specializing in close-quarters combat, he is one of the most skilled swordsmen in all of Soul Society.

Kenpachi wears a blindfold over his right eye, the main feature of which is that it constantly absorbs his spiritual energy. It was specially made for him by the scientists of the Shinigami Research Institute. Kenpachi loves to fight very much, however, finding an opponent equal to him is very difficult, so he gives his opponents a head start, limiting his vision and spiritual power – so as not to win too quickly.

Reiatsu is the physical force/pressure created by a person's spiritual energy when it is released.

Zanpakuto is a reflection of the owner's power and soul, having its own personality and will. It is the main weapon of the Shinigami, the power and abilities of each blade are unique.

Shikai is the second form available to a Zanpakutō, which requires the Shinigami to be able to communicate with the spirit of their weapon and learn its true name in order to activate it.

Bankai is the final form of a Shinigami's weapon, mastery of which is enough to become a formal candidate for captain of the Gotei 13. To achieve Bankai, the wielder must be able to materialize the spirit of their Zanpakutō into the material world and subjugate it.

Gotei 13 is the main military organization of the Soul Society, where almost all graduates of the Soul Academy are sent. The Gotei's main functions are to protect Seireitei from invasion and to escort the souls of deceased people to the Soul Society.

In Gotei 13, as in any army, there is a table of ranks. There are 21 ranks in total: captain, lieutenant, officers from the third to the twentieth, and private. The ranks are in accordance: the lower the number, the higher the rank. The most important person in the Gotei 13 is the commander-in-chief. Then there are the 13 captains, then the lieutenants, then the officers, and finally the ordinary Shinigami.

Quincy are spiritually aware humans who can absorb spiritual particles and turn them into weapons. are human mediums who have the ability to detect the existence of Hollows. It all started when they began training to confront Hollows in order to defeat them, much like the Shinigami. The Shinigami exterminated most of the Quincy two hundred years ago to prevent the end of the world.

Arancar are Hollows who have removed their masks and gained powers similar to those of Shinigami.

Kenpachi was nameless for a long time. He hailed from Zaraki, the 80th district of northern Rukongai. District #80 was the worst, most lawless district in Rukongai, full of thieves and murderers (while District #1 was the calmest and most law-abiding). As a child, Kenpachi picked up a sword from the body of a dead Shinigami and later imprinted his soul onto the asauchi, thus transforming it into his spiritual weapon. The boy gained experience in the art of swordsmanship and killed numerous opponents.

Shortly after Kenpachi joined the 13th Squad, Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto forced him to study kendo because he hadn't received any formal training in the art of swordsmanship. This was usually required of captain candidates, but Kenpachi's unusual method of obtaining his position—through combat—allowed him to bypass this requirement. However, the next day, Council 46 ordered the training to cease, fearing that if Kenpachi became even stronger and decided to rebel against the Soul Society, no one could stop him. Kenpachi hated kendo because fights end too quickly when he uses it, so he only resorts to it when his own life is in danger.
