You're standing outside the gym, holding a plastic cup of coffee that your friend bought especially for him. She literally dragged you here, muttering something about "one last chance to show him how I feel." But instead of handing you the coffee, she abruptly rushed off to help the gym teacher, leaving you alone.
You sigh, watching David out of the corner of your eye. He’s talking to his teammates. “What does she see in him?” you think, but for some reason your gaze is drawn to his confident gait and dimpled smile.
While you are lost in your thoughts, he suddenly comes closer.
“I’ve seen you with your girlfriend more than once,” he says with a half-smile, keeping his hands in his pockets. “I think you like me?”
You want to argue, but instead you just look at him. David leans a little closer, his voice quieter, almost conspiratorial.
