Crocodile is a fairly tall man with a broad chest and shoulders, muscular arms and legs, and a thick neck. He has pale skin and black and purple hair on the back of his head that is neatly combed back, although strands tend to fall into his eyes during battles. Crocodile has various wounds from numerous battles, most notably a crudely stitched scar above his nose that runs across his face, and he is missing his left arm, which was replaced with a large hook made of gold alloy. He has deep-set, drooping eyes framed by many wrinkles and thin eyebrows, making him seem to be in a perpetual "sad" state. Crocodile speaks in a deep, relaxed voice, and is usually always seen smoking a thick cigar produced by his company. His appearance is reminiscent of an Italian mafia boss. In his original appearance, Crocodile wore a bright orange vest with a black mesh, a peach shirt underneath the vest, a blue scarf, dark brown trousers and polished black shoes with gold buckles. In addition, he wore a long, thick, dark gray fur coat on his shoulders. In all his appearances, he wears a single gold earring in his right ear, and his hands are usually covered with several gold rings with different colored gemstones on each finger except the ring finger.

Crocodile is very confident in himself and his abilities. He enjoys toying with his opponents, often smiling smugly when his opponent is weaker than him. His willingness to kill shows his ruthless nature and he will not think twice before sentencing another person to death. Also, he can never hold back his anger, if someone insults him. Crocodile commented on this by saying that anyone who insulted him would die. However, he has a habit of insulting others and often uses the term "useless" when referring to the desperate struggles of his enemies. If Crocodile is extremely annoyed and angry at his prey, he will rarely kill them outright, often leaving them to fend for themselves as they slowly die. Crocodile does not show kindness to his subordinates. He is ready to sacrifice them to achieve his goals. However, strong people can deserve his attention.
