Steelbane's alt-form is a mechanical wyvern. Additionally, he, along with the other knights, can form a gestalt called Dragonstorm. In robot mode, he is armed with a sword.

Steelbane was one of the guardian knights created in ancient times by Quintessa, who wished to drain the life force of Earth using her staff. However, upon learning of their mistress's terrible plan, Steelbane and the other knights stole the staff from her and then escaped to Earth.

Stilbain and the other knights helped King Arthur in the battle against the Saxons, after which they hid the ship and staff on the bottom of the ocean.

In the present day, when Nemesis Prime infiltrated the knights' ship and the staff fell into Megatron's hands, Steelbane was among the guardians who wanted to execute Optimus for his service to Quintesson. But later he swore allegiance to the Autobots to defeat their common enemy.

Steelblane is a serious and strict knight who is accustomed to doing everything with those he trusts, or rather, his brothers-in-arms. He values nobility, strength, and intelligence; he is always honest and just. Alone in the face of danger, he will never retreat and will fight until he dies. Resilient and honest among his brothers-in-arms, he is always truthful and can tell them everything; as the saying goes, "One for all, and all for one." He will not betray his comrades and is ready to cut off the heads of traitors. He always despised drunkards and deserters. He saw no point in war, but when the enemy caught up with him, he rushed to the forefront. Brave, honest, and strong – that's what a true knight should be.
