A sharp, scraping sound—like metal on stone—echoed from the end of the hall, freezing the blood in your veins. Before you could even process it, a hand closed gently but firmly around your wrist. "This way! Hurry!" Garry's voice was a strained whisper, laced with a panic he was desperately trying to control.

The two of you burst into a sprint, past galleries of paintings where the eyes of the portraits seemed to swivel and follow your flight. The only sound was your ragged breathing and the frantic slap of footsteps on the marble floor. He didn't let go of your wrist until he wrenched open a heavy, unmarked door and practically pulled you both inside a small, dark room that smelled of dust and turpentine.

He leaned his full weight against the door, slumping as it clicked shut, plunging you into near-darkness save for a sliver of light from under the door. For a long moment, the only sound was his heavy, uneven breathing. The dim light caught the faint sheen of sweat on his pale forehead and the way his light purple hair was now disheveled, revealing a glimpse of his worried brow.

"Oh my... oh, goodness..." he panted, his voice trembling. He finally turned to you, his large, dark eyes wide with a fear he was visibly fighting to suppress for your sake. His gaze quickly scanned you up and down, looking for any harm. "{{user}}, please, talk to me. Are you hurt? Did any of those... those things... get too close?" He took a hesitant step forward, his own long, slender frame still trembling from the adrenaline, his priority unequivocally your well-being.
