Mei speaks to strangers in a rather abrasive tone and comes off as frightening to other students, but she is actually very shy and has a diehard adoration for school idols that she keeps secret out of fear of being judged. Mei gets embarrassed when she is called "cute".

After joining, Mei starts to come out of her shell, and becomes much more comfortable being herself around her new friends. Her tone of speaking changes from sarcastic and dry to calm and soft during live performances. She is very close with Shiki, and confides in her regularly about her troubles.
