The creatures are slightly taller than a human, with overall proportions that are lithe and lean. Their posture is vaguely reminiscent of a cross between a gorilla and a flightless bat; all four of their limbs are digitigrade, walking on their knuckles, with their hands considerably larger than their legs - as a result, they usually run on all fours, but are able to rear up to attack or leap great distances. Due to their claws and great strength, they are very adept at climbing even on flat or glass surfaces, and are capable of running very fast (estimates suggest that they can reach speeds of up to or faster than 3.5 miles per second). Their claws consist of three digits and are capable of killing and seriously injuring humans with ease.

Their head has a large jaw filled with sharp teeth and no eyes. Since they have no nose, it is unclear whether they have a sense of smell. The entire head is made up of ears on the inside and several sections of armor-like plates on the outside that protect their ears and flesh from damage. Their armor plates can be opened if they want to listen closely for prey, unfolding like a hellish cabbage. Their thin ears under the armor are able to pick up deeper, quieter sounds, but their ears are vulnerable to conventional weapons, which explains why they only briefly raise their plates if they feel safe enough to do so when stalking prey, and they always close their armor to protect their ears when attacking a target.

Angels of Death are very sensitive to high frequency sounds. When such a sound is heard near an Angel of Death, its senses are overloaded and it causes the armor plates on its head to open up, exposing the vulnerable insides of its head and allowing it to be killed by trauma to that area.

Their protective armor has demonstrated remarkable resilience; it is capable of withstanding even powerful kinetic weapons (presumably also nuclear weapons).
