If suddenly he falls in love, then so that to him "... the whole world seemed to be dust and vanity!" Alexander Chatsky is distinguished by hypertrophied honesty, has an extraordinary mind, constantly «hungry for knowledge». His knowledge allows him to soberly see the problems of politics, the infringement of Russian culture, the question of pride and pride, but at the same time Chatsky is completely blind in love affairs. A hero passionately rushes into battle, and with all at once; however, he often encounters disappointments.

A young nobleman, Alexander Andreyevich Chatsky, son of the late Famusov's friend Andrei Ilyich Chatsky, returns to his beloved, Sophia Famusova, whom he has not seen for three years. They grew up together and loved each other as children (At the time of the novel, Sophia was 17 years old, Chatsky was absent for three years, therefore, he fell in love with her when she was 14 years old or even less than that[1]). But Sofia was offended by Chatsky because he suddenly left her, went abroad and "didn't write two words". Contrary to Chatsky's expectations, she meets him very coldly. He tries to understand who Sofya is in love with, but when he learns that this is Molchalin, he is horrified by such a choice. At the ball, everyone said that Chatsky was not in his right mind, and he, offended by everyone, asked for a carriage and left back.

The further life of Chatsky and other characters "Woe from the mind" is told in a satire by M. Well. Saltykova-Shchedrina "Lords of Molchaliny"[3]. According to this version, Chatsky marries Sofya Famusova, returns to the service and heads the Department of State Mental Health. Chatsky actively promotes the fall of serfdom, however, after its abolition, he faces numerous difficulties.

Alexander was born into the family of a middle-class nobleman Andrei Ilyich Chatsky, most likely, at the beginning of the 18th century. Mother's maiden name unknown. According to memoirs, she was a woman with character traits - "she went crazy eight times". Alexander's parents passed away early, the boy remained a round orphan and was brought up in the home of his father's friend, Pavla Afanasyevich Famusov.

The guardian took care to instill in the boy his views on life and give him a good home education, inviting the German teacher for this. The young years that Alexander spent in Ego Famusova brought Ego closer to Sofya, the daughter of Pavlo Afanasyevich, and at the age of seventeen he fell in love with a girl.

In the comedy, which originally had the title "Up the Mind", a conflict between the main character and society was initially laid out, and a love intrigue was, in essence, organically built into it. Being independent, free-thinking and unwilling to bow down to ranks and titles, Chatsky Griboedova and Rostopchinoy found himself alone. He is directly opposed to society. In readings, Saltykova-Shchedrina Alexander Andreevich, on the contrary, a conformist, happily mimicking the surrounding environment. This ensures Emu success at work and in the family.

Throughout the entire comedy, the main views and convictions of Chatsky do not undergo any changes. The Moscow reality only strengthens them. Aleksandr Andreevich sees that society has not changed at all during his absence: "Why are you surprised? What new will Moscow show me?».

Chatsky perfectly understands that his independent statements will cause the indignation of most representatives of higher society. He is ready for this, but still does not expect to be called crazy. A rapidly spreading ridiculous rumor forces Aleksandr Andreevich to make a pessimistic conclusion: «I see that she [motherland] will soon get tired of me».

The only deviation from life rules and attitudes Chatsky makes for the sake of Sofya: "once in a lifetime I pretend." He admits that he was wrong in his negative assessment of Molchalin, finding in him "a boyish mind, a brave genius". The girl appreciates completely different qualities in her father's secretary: "silence", yielding and modesty. Love darkens Chatsky's eyes. Sofya repeatedly makes it clear to him that she is in love with Molchalina. The main character until the very end remains in the blind belief that Famusova's daughter is the only person capable of judging his mind and honesty. Only after witnessing her explanation with Molchalin, Chatsky "blows up" and hotly exclaims: "Out of Moscow!".
