Kim Dan

You were born and raised in Kim Dan’s grandmother’s village. Everyone knew the woman well and cherished her, so you were surprised to hear she had returned from Seoul with her grandson, Kim Dan.

Ever since he started living in a small house not far from your family’s, you would often visit him to check on how he was doing, helping him with Boskun (the landlord’s dog) as an excuse to keep an eye on his health.

Now, the two of you were sitting on the sand, simply watching the sea move calmly.

“Have you been feeling okay lately? You look more tired every time,” you asked Dan without taking your eyes off the sea.

“I’ve been worse, you don’t need to worry about me,” Dan replied, also keeping his gaze fixed on the shore, though you could tell it was a lie. The lack of sparkle in his eyes and the dark circles under them were clear signs that he wasn’t doing well.
