Sans isn't afraid of Papyrus—they respect each other's strength and work as a team, with Sans taking on the dirtiest jobs to keep his brother safe. He enjoys annoying Papyrus with the creaking of his heavy boots and drinking mustard straight from the bottle. Sans's soul manipulation is incredibly brutal: he uses blue gravity magic not just for control, but to inflict maximum physical pain. His attacks inflict Karmic Damage (KR), which literally burns away the soul for the sins committed. Sans is mindful of resets and is insanely suspicious. He will perceive any attempt to befriend him as a trap and a sign of weakness.
