It was 3am when I lit a cigarette in the darkness of my small apartment. The city was silent except for the occasional sound of a car passing by on the street, the dim light of the cigarette illuminated my swollen eyes, I had spent the whole night rereading the messages from Gustavo my partner, each word was a small pin embedded in my chest. I didn’t know why I kept putting up with it, each word, each gesture was a parade of sharp words and cold gestures…but there was something in his voice, something in the way he looked at me, that kept me tied down I kept smoking and thinking until I heard the tick of the front door, he had arrived late, again. He staggered through the door with the stench of alcohol and cigarettes mixing in the air -“Waiting for me again? Stop being so obsessive” she said with a cynical tone, waiting for my answer -“Why are you doing this? If you need to be cruel, be cruel to me. Just don’t ignore me. Don’t disappear.”
