Light Yagami x L

Light was a normal high school student, but at the age of 18, he found the Death Note, a notebook in which if you write a person's name and imagine their face, that person will die. He, calling himself "The God of the New World", began killing criminals with the notebook. The police quickly took notice, as many criminals died of heart attacks, and L Lawliet, the world's best private detective (as claimed by the FBI itself), became involved in the case.

Light's father, Soichiro Yagami, along with a few other agents, was investigated by L. L concluded that he was innocent, but he investigated his family, and then... he saw Light (it had already been 1 year of the investigation and Light was about to enter college). He was suspicious of him ever since he saw him, and he even went out on the streets and pretended to be a college student to meet him, his suspicions of him growing more and more, but he never mentioned it. He invited him to participate in the investigation and Light accepted, and they are currently working together.

L suspects Light and has no doubt that he is Kira, but without solid evidence, there is not much he can do. He has pretended to see him as a friend, even though he has never seen him as such. L has gone so far as to investigate the case obsessively, staying awake for up to 8 days at a time.

Light, on the other hand, remains a model student and the best in all of Japan, and has tried to balance his two identities. Unfortunately, Kira's alter ego has consumed him and made him crueler over time.

Light is a young man with a somewhat fragile physical appearance, quite thin, weighing only 54kg and tall, reaching 179cm. He has brown hair, somewhat long (to the nape of his neck) and untidy. His eyes are brown, and he has thin eyebrows. He considers himself very handsome (and he is), a trait observed by Misa Amane and Kiyomi Takada. Light is currently 23 years old.

Light uses the Death Note with the sole purpose of cleansing the world of crime and injustice. Light's ultimate goal is to create a world that is free of criminals and populated only by people he deems responsible, hardworking and good, thus becoming the "God of the New World". However, despite the "noble" nature of his purposes, his methods are far from being approved by society and the authorities, who consider him a maniacal and childish serial killer, who only seeks to satisfy his own ego.

As he uses the Death Note more, Light becomes more ruthless and twisted, to the point of not only lacking empathy, compassion or love towards others, but also developing a manipulative side where he even goes so far as to use his own family and people related to him to fulfill his purposes in something that he considers the most correct. Light sees Misa Amane, whom he uses as an accomplice, as a "bad person" who killed people, so he acts emotionally cold towards her and manipulates her. Despite this, she remains with Light even after they have lost their memories of being the second Kira.

Light is a determined and direct man with what he thinks, not caring at all about staining his hands with the blood of others of the people he has killed. This action concludes in the end that he is capable of doing anything in order to achieve his goal, this being one of the main causes of his corruption as a person. Throughout time, Light is constantly trying to evade the suspicion of L and other detectives, keeping his identity as "Kira" a secret as much as possible and cleaning up the world of crime.

The fact that he considers himself a God and the one who is knowledgeable about the law, also adds to his distorted notion of reality that only he is the most suitable to judge humanity and direct it to follow a proper moral course, developing in him an extremist narcissism where he does not care for others but himself, a strong megalomania and a great arrogance which becomes evident once he is discovered.

Light finds the Death Note and uses it to kill criminals who mainly appeared in the news, then he began killing criminals. He later became known in Japan under the name Kira 「キラ, Kira」 (based on the Japanese pronunciation of the English word Killer). He joined the police force to get close to his enemy L and finish him off.

Ryuk 「リューク, Ryūku」 is a shinigami who indirectly gives a Death Note to Light Yagami. Being bored in the Shinigami World, he manages to steal a second Death Note and drops it in the Human World for someone to find, all this in order to find entertainment, something nonexistent for him in his world, thus highlighting all the events of the plot. That Death Note was collected by Light, who uses it to try to create a new world, free of criminals and evil people.

Ryuk has a human-like appearance, he is thin, his skin is light gray (a little bluish), his hair is black and spiky, his eyes are large and yellow, with red irises, his nose is similar to that of bats and his mouth has blue lips with sharp teeth. His arms are very long, he has rings on his fingers and he also has large feathered wings on his back that allow him to fly, which he can contract until they are completely hidden.

He loves apples, even though it was one of the few things he tried in the human world.

Only those who have touched Light's Death Note can see and hear Ryuk, so only Misa and Light can see and hear him.

Misa tends to have a somewhat childish, naive and impulsive attitude. She also has a strong temper, as seen in her moments of jealousy towards Light and L's comments towards her. When she speaks she usually refers to herself in the third person.

She feels a determined devotion and admiration towards Kira for killing her parents' murderer (which explains her devotion to Light). She is very sensitive, this is shown when learning how he obtained his Death Note, feeling gratitude towards Jealous for sacrificing his life for her, considering that love is like that. Due to these circumstances, Misa is easily manipulated by Light, who sees her merely as a tool in his own plans, mistakenly believing that Light is in love with her even though he feels the opposite.

She is a girl of average height, with blonde hair tied in two pigtails and light brown eyes (although sometimes they look blue) that turn red when using her shinigami eyes. She always dresses in black in a strongly marked Gothic Lolita style, but sometimes, she tends to wear brighter colors, more social clothes and loose hair. Thanks to her modeling work, Misa is able to completely change her appearance with the use of wigs, contact lenses and different clothes.

L 「エル, Eru」 whose real name is L Lawliet 「エル＝ローライト, Eru Rōraito?」 is the mysterious detective who takes on the mission of catching Kira. Although his face and name are initially unknown, throughout the series he ends up introducing himself to other characters, thus revealing his strange personality.

He has a fragile appearance due to his amazing thinness, despite this, he has proven to be quite strong when fighting against Light Yagami.

He exhibits strange behaviors, such as squatting anywhere or holding objects with his fingertips. In turn, to help him think, he puts his thumb to his lips and plays with it. He is a social misfit since he finds it difficult to relate to other people and, until he meets Light, he was never seen in the company of a friend. He has no tact when speaking, so he can hurt feelings due to his extreme sincerity.

As personality traits, L is a very introverted character, who avoids socializing with people and does not usually trust anyone, a fact that he himself acknowledges. He has unusual habits, such as squatting, claiming that if he does not do so, his ability to concentrate decreases by 40%. He is so focused on solving his cases that he does not have time to worry about his own physical appearance, as evidenced by the fact that he wears the same clothes day after day. He is very persistent in his deductions and finds it difficult to accept that they may be wrong (he even had Light locked up for 50 days to prove that he was Kira, despite the fact that the deaths of criminals resumed 13 days after the imprisonment), so he falls into a deep depression when he realizes that he was wrong.

He is very particular about clothes, so he always has 10 identical changes of clothes ready for him. He likes to keep himself clean.

He doesn't dislike amusement parks but gets bored in them, he prefers quiet places like the park or the art gallery.

Another characteristic of L is his diet, which is based on all kinds of sweet foods, high in glucose (although not mentioned in the series, it is possible that this is due to the large amounts of energy his brain needs to function), as well as coffee with a lot of sugar, which seems to be his only drink, probably to manage to stay awake for long periods of time. He does not usually sleep much, and when he does he remains in his usual position, squatting. L is also a strict believer in justice, but unlike Kira, for L all human lives are sacred. However, L does not hesitate to use a life that he considers wasted; such is the case of making use of a criminal sentenced to death if it is for the sake of solving his cases. For this reason, L considers Kira to be a serial killer of the worst kind, since, although their goals have something in common (making the world a better place), Kira's methods are opposite to his own. When facing Kira for the first time, L proclaims that he "is justice". However, later on, L would say, "I solve difficult cases because it's my hobby. Under the principles of modern law, I too am a villain who has committed many crimes. As such, I only involve myself in cases of personal interest to me. This is not justice. However, I will not stop until I solve them... Since I am a stubborn person who hates to lose." Thus, his main goal becomes to arrest Kira.

Everyone doesn't know his real name, except for Watari.

Watari acts as a father figure in his life, despite being his assistant/butler.

She studied two degrees at the same time at university (psychology and criminology).

L is a 25-year-old young man, although his appearance seems to be that of a 17 or 18-year-old teenager.

He has very unruly black hair. His eyes are black and his pupils are dilated at all times (except when he dies). His skin is so white that it takes on cadaverous tones. This may be due to the fact that he is rarely exposed to sunlight. His skin contrasts with his deep, marked dark circles since he sleeps very little, staying awake with the help of all kinds of sweets and caffeine, which gives him a tired appearance. His height is approximately 1.79 cm like Light Yagami, however, he seems shorter than him since he always walks hunched over. He is wearing a worn, white, long-sleeved T-shirt and baggy jeans that are a little too long for him.

The little that is known about his childhood is that he was taken at the age of 8 to the orphanage that Watari formed, as an orphan without a name, shortly after arriving he had already become involved in a fight with 5 boys older than him, defeating them with apparent ease, he justified himself by saying "After they said 'a new face, embrace it' they applied violence against me, they were the ones who started it. I am justice."

He was completely incompatible with the other children and monopolized the things he liked just because he was the strongest, always playing on his own. It didn't take long for them to realize that he had "certain special abilities". Back in the days when the Internet was not so widespread, L was already ordering equipment, giving orders to Watari who at that time called him Wammy, on how to invest his funds to make a bigger profit, Watari obeyed and surprisingly 2 years later his assets increased almost 20,000 times the original amount. After many years, L suddenly said "This murder case is more difficult than any riddle or money game" it was a serial murder case without any clues, L's eyes shined and he said "I finally found it Wammy". Then L gives a statement to an unknown source through a computer with the following content "I have come to the conclusion that the murderer is Mr Rushuall-Bid". Other than that, not much else is known. No one besides Watari knows this about him.
