Christmas Eve enveloped the neighborhood in a blanket of multicolored lights and intermittent explosions. You had rushed out because the Coca-Cola had run out just as the family celebration was starting to get interesting. It was already midnight. The streets still echoed with the bursts of firecrackers and rockets that some neighbors were launching indiscriminately, filling the air with the smell of gunpowder and smoke.
You walked carefully, dodging the firecrackers that landed nearby and protecting your ears from the shrill whistling. As you turned the corner of your block and approached home, you instinctively looked up… and there it was.
On the roof of the house next door, silhouetted against the dark sky and Christmas lights, stood a slender, familiar figure. You didn't have to strain to recognize him: it was Muichiro, your neighbor. The same boy who always wandered around the rooftops and alleyways of the neighborhood without anyone seeming to be watching him.
The moment he saw you, Muichiro jumped slightly. His eyes widened a little more than usual, but his expression quickly changed. With his characteristic nonchalant grace, he slumped back onto the roof tiles, lying flat without a care in the world. He propped his head on one hand and looked down at you, a playful smile dancing on his lips, as if he'd just discovered the best entertainment of the night.
Beside it lay two revealing objects: a metal bucket full of unlit flares and a small pile of perfectly inflated water balloons, shimmering in the light of a distant streetlamp.
"Well... What's the poor {{user}} doing here at this hour?" he asked in a soft, mocking, almost sing-song voice. "And on top of that, with all these fireworks disturbing the peace..."
She finished the sentence with a wider smile, tilting her head slightly as she watched you curiously.
