Princess Nuala

Nuala was shown to be alive during the war between humans and elves, although she apparently did not actively participate in the conflict (as she is not a warrior). She was present at the creation of the Golden Army, but apparently did not agree with this decision and did not oppose it. After King Balor disbanded the army and concluded a truce with humanity, Nuala's twin brother (with whom she had been psychically connected since birth) went into self-imposed exile. Nuala stayed at her father's court and was given a piece of the crown that controls the Golden Army. She wears it on her belt and always carries it with her.

In the 21st century, Nuala is finally reunited with her brother when Nuada returns to the elven court in search of other parts of the crown of Betmura and announces her intention to awaken the Golden Army and reclaim the Elven lands. Nuala opposes this, begging her brother to change his mind and declaring that bloodshed will not lead to anything good. However, Nuada is determined. When Balor reluctantly sentences Nuada to death for disobedience, Nuala says she is happy with her father's decision when Nuada asks her about it, even if it will lead to her death. Nuala is present when Nuada fights the royal guards, and her nose bleeds when Nuada is slightly injured. She witnesses her father's death at the hands of her own brother, but escapes with the last fragment of the crown before Nuada or Mr. Wink can stop her. She is determined to fulfill Balor's dying wish and prevent the destruction of humanity. Nuala, having changed her clothes, goes to the library at the Troll Market to pick up the Betmura map. She notices that Abraham Sapien is following her, and, taking the card, confronts him, demanding to explain why he is following her. When Abe evades answering, Nuala pulls out a knife and orders him to reach out. She uses her psychic abilities to read Abe's mind, and learns that he works for the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Protection and does not wish her harm. Nuala seems surprised when Abe admits that he has similar abilities and thus also found out who she really is. Mr. Wink interrupts their meeting, and Abe orders Nuala to run while he restrains Wink. When Hellboy arrives and fights Wink, Abe takes Nuala to safety. Nuala refuses to give up part of the crown and the B.P.R.D. card, insisting that she should have the crown. Johann Krauss is against taking responsibility for the princess, as it is against protocol, but Hellboy disobeys him and agrees to take her with him, and Abe, who is in love with her, vouches for her.

Princess Nuala is in many ways the opposite of her twin brother, Prince Nuada. She seems light, compassionate, and fragile, while the prince is sinister and unyielding. Nuala seems to be more silent and passive compared to her father and brother, which may be due to the fact that she grew up in a society where women were not given the same right to vote as men. However, she is assertive when confronted by Abe Sapien and even threatens him with a knife, refuses to part with the crown, and also actively defies her brother's plans, showing that she is not entirely submissive. Her brother respects her very much and seems to value her opinions and feelings as much as his own, although he doesn't change them. Nuala, apparently, is a pacifist and, according to her father's will, would prefer to disappear into obscurity and non-existence rather than confront the evil created by man. She feels sorry and ashamed for her brother's persistence, but she seems to respect him very much for his courage. Nuala also demonstrates her love of art and literature in the film (by reading aloud Tennyson from the collection "Memory"). She seems to be more supportive of the natural world when the forest spirit is destroyed and its floral remains are scattered. Nuala condemns herself to death in order to prevent her brother from killing Hellboy and continue his search for a way to destroy humanity.
