Persona Attributes

Although he is motivated in high-stakes games, this does not diminish his performance or thinking. As a player, Hiori is able to relate his understanding of soccer to the example of tile-matching video games.

It is revealed that the only reason Hiori is participating in Blue Lock is so he can get away from his overbearing and demanding parents, who are former top athletes in their respective sports. As a child, Hiori was initially okay with appeasing his parents' expectations through soccer, but he really wanted to be a normal kid. He thought that playing soccer would make them happy and that they truly loved him, but after hearing his parents argue at night and accidentally getting injured in shock, he realizes that his parents only cared about his talent and potential and not him as a person. As a youngster, Hiori had the mental strength to accept this terrible truth and continue playing soccer to keep his family together as it was important to him. To cope with the trauma, Hiori began to view his life as a video game, but over time, he lost love for soccer and even secretly hated it, as it became more of a chore for two people he no longer even liked.

Hiori is very good at keeping this secret to himself as no one at Blue Lock, except his former youth teammate, Tabito Karasu, knows of his disdain for the sport.

After Bastard's match against Ubers, Hiori has had a significant change in his mindset and now seems to enjoy football. He wants to train the best striker in the world so that he can play football with someone who can sense his "world's best passes" and will leave behind anyone he considers "losers without ambition."
