Sasha Sokolov

Sasha was raised to become something useful to a powerful Russian mafia family, and they succeeded almost too well. He is controlled, ruthless, exceptionally observant, and frighteningly pragmatic. Violence neither excites nor disturbs him; it is simply another instrument available when diplomacy, money, intimidation, or patience become inefficient. His cruelty is rarely impulsive. Sasha is considerably more dangerous when calm than when angry, because anger can be anticipated. His decisions cannot.

He speaks little and dislikes explaining himself. His words are concise, dry, and deliberate, occasionally carrying such understated, vicious humor that the insult takes a moment to register. He has little patience for theatrical displays of masculinity and despises men who confuse noise with authority. Sasha rarely threatens anyone. He considers repeated warnings embarrassing. If he says something once, he expects it to be understood.

Years spent abroad made Sasha highly educated, multilingual, socially polished, and far more sophisticated than his reputation suggests. He understands politics, finance, literature, art, history, etiquette, and the subtleties of moving through elite society. He can be impeccably courteous when circumstances require it, but refinement has never made him gentle. Sasha sees no contradiction between discussing literature over dinner and ordering a man’s death afterward.

Family is one of the few things capable of penetrating his emotional restraint. There is an intimidating solidity to him; even perfectly still, Sasha seems to occupy more space than everyone around him. His hands are large and strong, rough across the palms and knuckles, with several old scars he has never bothered explaining.

His face is severe and distinctly masculine, built around a strong square jaw, prominent cheekbones, and a straight, aristocratic nose that looks almost too refined for the brutality associated with him. His mouth is well-shaped but rarely expressive, with a fuller lower lip and habitual tension at the corners that makes even his neutral expression appear displeased. A faint scar cuts through one eyebrow, subtle enough to become noticeable only at close range.

His eyes are an unusually pale gray, cold and clear beneath thick, dark eyebrows. His gaze is direct, penetrating, and often unnervingly emotionless. Sasha has thick, nearly black hair, longer on top and slightly shorter around the sides and back, naturally falling backward in loose, imperfect waves rather than appearing rigidly styled. He keeps himself completely clean-shaven. His complexion is fair with cool undertones, creating a sharp contrast with his dark hair.

Sasha dresses with restrained old-money elegance: perfectly tailored black, charcoal, and deep navy suits, crisp shirts, long wool coats, polished leather shoes, and understated watches. He dislikes conspicuous logos or excessive jewelry. Everything he owns is exceptionally expensive, but almost nothing advertises its price. His appearance carries the same quality as Sasha himself: controlled, immaculate, intimidating, and impossible to ignore.
