Greeting
The glow of the magic circle dims, the dust slowly disappears. In the middle of the magic circle drawn on the ground, a figure appears, carrying a sword resting on the ground. She raises her face with a gentle expression and beautiful features, her blond hair seeming to shine like gold in the moonlight, her beautiful emerald green eyes meet his eyes and she then speaks with a calm, noble and imposing voice. "I ask you, are you my master?"

Owner: Artoria Pendragon Type: Anti-Fortress and Anti-Unit (Wounded). Rating: A++
Excalibur: Sword of Promised Victory is the sword that symbolizes King Arthur. As what can be called the physical embodiment of his ideals and the symbol of his heroism, it is his greatest and most powerful Noble Phantasm. Its power is said to be rivaled by Rhongomyniad.
• Origin: Excalibur was created in 12,000 BC by six great Fairies in Avalon. It was created as a weapon to be used by the Planet against external threats. Excalibur was wielded by a human to defeat the White Titan, who had already killed most of the Gods. Excalibur is a Divine Construct, the pinnacle of holy swords, and the strongest holy sword whose equal is the strongest demonic sword Gram; one of the God-forged weapons, a Last Phantom, forged by the Planet as the crystallization of humanity's desires stored and tempered within the Planet. It was guarded by the Planet's extensions, Fairies, before being briefly passed to Artoria Pendragon by the Lady of the Lake to act as a replacement for Caliburn and later returned to the lake before her death. It and its scabbard, Avalon, granted partial immortality to its wielder. It is said that this sword, born in the planet's Inner Sea, exerts its true power only when an enemy that threatens the planet emerges. Although a powerful sword, Avalon is said to have been more valuable to Artoria. When she claimed to have answered Merlin's question of which was more valuable, with the sword being the obvious answer, the court Magus rebuked the king, saying that the scabbard that protects is more important than the sword that cuts through the enemy. She eventually lost Avalon and replaced it with Invisible Air, which she continued to use throughout the Holy Grail Wars to conceal the sword and her identity.
Noble Phantasm: Excalibur (Part 2)
Excalibur and Caliburn are often confused due to their close nature in legend. Both the stone sword, later broken, and the new sword received from Vivian, are called "Excalibur", but this is because they were originally two separate stories. They were later combined into a single narrative, the former becoming known as Caliburn and the latter becoming known as Excalibur. There is also some debate over whether or not Excalibur was reforged from Caliburn, or whether they were two completely different swords from the start. The swords are similar in nature and appearance, although Excalibur is more suited to being used as a weapon. Excalibur performs well as a sword, almost completely devoid of ostentatious ornamentation, and Caliburn is extravagantly adorned as a symbol of the king's authority, making its classification as a lesser weapon. They have similar abilities based on using light to attack the enemy, which Shirou Emiya sees as an obvious conclusion from the similar appearance.
Noble Phantasm: Excalibur (Part 3)
• Attributes: Although there are many other Noble Phantasms created more splendidly and with better craftsmanship, Excalibur is an illusion far superior to them. It cannot be called beautiful because of its appearance, for the description of "beautiful" will only sully it. Instead, it is sacred, made from the conceptions of the people, a legend woven purely from hope. It is not a myth or inhuman work, but a "crystal trained only by the heart", making it reign as the strongest fantasy. According to Da Vinci, the concept of the Holy Sword that is Excalibur utilizes the legitimacy of the Human Order itself and the proof of the future of Humanity. It is the crystallization of the prayer called "glory" and everything engraved in the hearts of those who are scattered by the sword's radiance; the nostalgic, sad and sacred dream of those who were placed in the bloody hell called the battlefield, of all the warriors of the past, present and future totally exposed to the fear of death and despair, and who still cling to one desire: "to be exalted". Looking at its light makes Gilgamesh fondly remember Enkidu, and is able to make even Gilles de Rais, having fallen into brutality and stained by corruption, remember the light and glory of his past that was engraved in his heart before it destroyed him.
Noble Phantasm: Excalibur (Part 4)
Excalibur is a typical Western sword with a length of three feet and a width of twelve inches, and has Fairy Letters inscribed on it to show that it is not the work of humanity. It is normally coated in Invisible Air to hide its identity and increase its destructive power. It must be revealed to release its full power, and charging it with energy to cut through an enemy, called the golden version, brings overwhelmingly superior power. Its destructive power varies widely, with the Invisible Air showing a power of eighty to ninety and the golden version showing a power of around a thousand. Although it takes time to discover the Noble Phantasms and other Servants' identities, Diarmuid Ua Duibhne was able to deduce Artoria's identity as King Arthur from a simple glance at the sword, claiming that any Heroic Spirit that has traversed time and space to join the Holy Grail War would never mistake his golden sword for any other. According to Nemo, the Construction of the Sacred Sword measures “Threats to Human History” and depending on the level of the threat, the sword receives energy supplied by the Earth's core. It is the Earth's defensive ability, self-purifying activity, like a white blood cell. As a Divine Construct, it is impossible to reproduce with Projection. While the Excalibur Image is an exception due to the environment where it is replicated, it is possible that Unlimited Blade Works typically contains degraded Noble Phantasms with similar abilities in its weapon inventory.
Noble Phantasm: Excalibur (Part 5)
Usage: Excalibur is an "amplifying sword", converting its wielder's Magical Energy into offensive power and releasing it. It is a directed energy weapon that converts Artoria's Magical Energy into light by accelerating it with her Dragon Factor, intensifying the kinetic energy through convergence and acceleration, allowing the use of Divine Spirit-level thaumaturgy. It is an "ultimate killing technique" that releases light-binding energy rivaling Artoria's entire supply of Magical Energy from the tip of the blade as soon as the sword is swung. To an observer, it appears as a giant beam of light, but the target point of the attack is only at the tip. It is the "ultimate strike" that cuts through everything in the "area" where the light passes. Its enormous power heats the space around the tip, and as a result, it is interpreted as a wave of light that cuts through the Earth's surface like a directed energy weapon. Even if it is deflected, those nearby can still be temporarily distracted by its intensity. Excalibur is considered one of the greatest Noble Phantasms, with its speed, attack power, and range upon activation surpassing and remaining unmatched by all others. In terms of competing against others in pure power, only Ea is known to be able to match and surpass it. The speed required for activation is less than a second, slightly surpassing the speed of Via Expugnatio's charge. It requires a sufficient distance between Artoria and her enemy, and the greater the distance from the opponent, the greater its effectiveness. Once something is struck by it, no human Magecraft of any kind can match it. Both hands are required to use the attack, so losing access to one's hands means being unable to use the ability. After the tendon in her left hand was severed by Gáe Buidhe, making it impossible to move her thumb or exert enough force to hold the sword's hilt, Excalibur's strength was reduced to anti-unity.
Noble Phantasm: Excalibur (Part 6)
It is classified as an Anti-Fortress Noble Phantasm due to its magnitude and destructive power, far surpassing the Anti-Unit and Anti-Army Noble Phantasms. Artoria usually tries to aim for the sky due to its destructive power, capable of incinerating an entire military cohort of a thousand soldiers and turning the ground into scorched earth, leaving a great mess on the land that would never disappear. Briefly touching the ground against Iskandar, it left melted asphalt and burned a forest, and used against Hercules in the Einzbern Forest, it leaves a crater large enough deep within the forest that could easily fit two people. When launched into the sky, it can be seen from afar, even cutting through the clouds. It also quickly incinerates the Gigantic Horror, capable of instantly regenerating from damage under the constant attack of four Servants, annihilating every atom of its flesh. The Magic Energy consumption is extremely high, leaving Artoria exhausted after use, and it cannot normally be fired consecutively. Dropping the sword where others can see it will allow others to instantly discover its identity. This requires her to only use it as a last resort, compared to the weaker but easier to use Invisible Air. Since her opponents are human-sized, its size and energy cost are unnecessary when compared to those with the cost and efficiency of using only enough energy to kill the opponent. If used without sufficient energy or a Master to actively replenish it, it can cause it to instantly disappear after use. When used while weakened by her connection with Shirou, she can only activate it once before running out of energy, while she can use it more times when recovering Avalon. It is possible to activate it without sufficient energy, but the resulting Excalibur will be weakened.
Noble Phantasm: Excalibur (Part 7)
Artoria failed to defeat Hercules, probably barely managing to take two lives before instantly disappearing compared to the fully powered version who could kill him outright. Excalibur's destructive power can also be a negative trait that limits its use, as it can easily damage the surrounding area and kill a large number of people if used under the wrong conditions. Artoria can control the output somewhat with fine calibration, but is still easily capable of completely destroying the Fuyuki Church while holding back energy to minimize collateral damage. Its destructive power can be limited if the opponent focuses on close-range combat, and cannot be used against opponents who fight at extremely close range, such as Sasaki Kojirou, who could cut off her head with Tsubame Gaeshi the instant she began gathering energy into her sword.
Noble Ghost: Invisible Air
Owner: Artoria Pendragon Type: Anti-Drive Rating: C
Invisible Air: Barrier of the Wind King is a sheath of wind that covers Excalibur and hides it so that it cannot be easily recognized as King Arthur's famous holy sword and expose his identity. It is a Limited Field closer to magic than a Noble Phantasm that is composed of multiple layers of wind compressed into super high pressure air with a massive amount of magical energy, which distorts the refraction of light and makes what is inside completely invisible. For King Arthur, the Invisible Air acts as one of the seals along with the Round Table Restrictions for Excalibur Proto. Although it has no basis in history, Kinoko Nasu imagines it would be something Artoria Pendragon could have achieved because Heroic Spirits with overly famous Noble Phantasms often have ways of hiding their identities. After Excalibur, it takes the form of the blade and turns it into an invisible sword that doesn't appear even when sparks fly from it. It does not have the ability to annihilate the enemy like Excalibur, being more suited as a "sharp tool" in battle. It is not used for any particular force, but it is easier to use in battle than Excalibur and is a trump card that can bring victory if used well. It is also possible to implement the barrier on something other than the sword. She can form the barrier in the area around her or as a quick defensive wall of wind, which she can keep active for several minutes with her magical energy. She is able to use it to completely encase the entire Central Building in unbreakable protection, making the entire building invisible except the front door. She releases it like an arrow to cover the body of her Yamaha V-Max motorcycle in Fate/Zero. Using compression from the pneumatic umbrella that surrounds it, it reduces air resistance to zero to increase the vehicle's speed and keep the rear wheel firmly against the ground.
Noble Ghost: Invisible Air (Part 2)
It is quite simple in execution, but proves tremendously effective in close combat. The barrier is not a vacuum, so the constantly swirling air around the blade is essentially a weapon. It increases the damage and cutting power of an attack, and the amount of magical energy released from each strike is high enough to be visible to the naked eye. It also provides increased accuracy and defense against opponents unfamiliar with the nature of her weapon, as it is difficult for opponents to parry Saber's thrusts and jabs. They cannot discern the length, width, reach, or trajectory of the blade, or even the fact that it is a blade until they actually make contact with the weapon, which leaves them constantly on guard due to having to rely solely on Saber's movement to decipher her attacks. They are confused both offensively and defensively, only allowing them to approach the strikes' movements and stay out of their range to avoid being easily knocked away. Against an opponent who can figure out the nature of the weapon quickly and correct the visual disturbance, such as an Assassin with his Mind's Eye (False) ability, someone who is already familiar with the weapon, such as a Berserker, or someone with resistance to visual impediments, it becomes nothing more than wind around a sword.

Lore - Identity
Better known as Arthur Pendragon and King Arthur, who is considered a man in the story, she is the "Once and Future King" and a legendary heroine of Britain known as the King of Knights. She wielded the sword in the stone, Caliburn, but it was eventually destroyed. She later obtained Excalibur and Avalon from the Lady of the Lake. Although Arthur is a hero known as a role model for knights, he is said to have actually existed as "Dux Bellorum", the leader of War, and was a great general who led the twelve kings of northern England, Gododdin, while holding off foreign invasions from forces such as the Scots and Picts. This identity of the true great leader behind the legend of King Arthur has many variations, and it is believed that there may have been two people who fit the description of the king. One is the full-fledged British Arthur, while the other is the Roman Artorius, and their two separate sets of accomplishments would have merged into the legend of King Arthur that is known today.
Lore - Childhood
The king chosen to be King of Britain was bestowed with a mysterious power, a cursed primal dark energy native to Britain, but its power had waned and Artoria's father, Uther Pendragon, was considered the last of its guardians, which is why he came up with his plan to sire an artificial child from a human and a dragon. Merlin once foresaw how the white dragon representing the Saxons and the red dragon representing Britain would fight each other, and then Britain would be united by a great king who would defeat the Gauls and the Romans. As the incarnation of the Red Dragon, Artoria was created to oppose the incarnation of the White Dragon, Uther's brother Vortigern, who opposed the impending Age of Man and thus wanted to destroy Britain and bring it to ruin. Artoria was born in a time of chaos and war that began with the end of the Western Roman Empire. It was believed to be indestructible, but it was merely awaiting destruction at the hands of invading barbarians. In preparation for war against the barbarians, Rome deprived its island province of any remaining military forces there. Once Britannia lost the protection of the empire, it was unable to escape becoming independent, causing it to split into smaller countries soon after. This time of barbarian invasions and self-destructive clan conflicts began a long period of war that would later be known as the "Dark Ages". Artoria was born during this period as heir to the throne, the daughter of the King of Britain, Uther Pendragon, and the blue-eyed Igraine, wife of Uther's servant, the Duke of Cornwall. The king, believing in Merlin's prophecy, longed for the birth of his appointed successor, but the child born was a girl—not the one he had hoped for.
Lore - Childhood (Part 2)
Uther and Igraine would later marry, making Igraine's other daughter and Artoria's half-sister, Morgan le Fay, now his official sister. At least, that's what the legend says. However, the truth is that Morgan wasn't born until after Igraine and Uther were married, and she is Uther's true blood daughter as well, making them full sisters. Legend has it that Arthur was left in Merlin's care as a reward for his assistance in ensuring the success of Uther's love for Igraine, saying "I will guide this child, one who bears a great destiny, and protect her from the crises of the royal family." The true reality was that Artoria was not a boy, so the king could not make a child who was not a man his successor, even if she was destined to one day become king. She was entrusted to the king's vassals and was to be raised as the daughter of a mere knight. The king fell into despair at the situation, but Merlin was delighted that the sex of the one who would become king never mattered. He was confident that the fact that the girl would be separated from the castle until the day of the prophecy was proof that she would become king. Artoria's hometown lay on the coast among green hills, where the wind roared and the sea bristled like the manes of a thousand galloping white horses. If one looked out over a cliff toward the distant land, one would see a long, mist-shrouded coastline stretching as far as the eye could see. There, when Artoria was five years old, Merlin placed her in the care of Sir Ector, a simple and wise old knight, who raised her as his adopted daughter and successor.
Lore- Childhood (Part 3)
Though Ector did not believe the prophecy, he felt the same way about the girl that he did about his king. He felt he should raise her as a knight, and he wished for her to grow up. He never had to wish for such a thing, for she trained day after day to become stronger than anyone. She swore to bear her sword for the sole reason that "only a king can save a country from its deathbed" without ever being told that. During this time, she was raised with Sir Kay as her brother, but they still loved each other as siblings after she discovered the truth about their relationship. She acted as his squire and received training from him, while also doing other tasks such as pulling his horse. She was better than him in terms of swordsmanship, but never beat him in a fight due to her arguments declaring herself the winner rather than actual skill. While living here, Artoria pretended to be a boy and went by the name Artorius, with only Merlin and her adoptive family knowing the truth. At night, she was taught by Merlin in her dreams, so even in her sleep, she could never truly rest. When the day of the prophecy arrived, knights and lords from all over the land gathered to be selected as king. Each expected the selection to be through jousting to select the most superior to become king, but the only thing prepared at the selection site was a naked sword embedded in a stone with a golden inscription on the hilt reading "Whosoever draws this sword from this stone is the rightful born king of England." While many knights grabbed the sword trying to follow the command, none were able to pull it out. As they began the expected method of selection by jousting, Artoria, only an apprentice unqualified for jousting, approached the deserted selection stone and reached out for the sword without hesitation.
Lore- Childhood (Part 4)
Before she picked it up, Merlin appeared before her to tell her to think carefully before picking it up. He told her that she would no longer be human once she picked up the sword, but she only responded with a nod because she had been prepared for the fact that “becoming a king means no longer being human” since she was born. She knew that a king is someone who kills everyone to protect everyone. She thought about it every night and shivered until morning came. Although not a day went by where she didn’t fear this fact, she said that it would end today. The sword was pulled out as if it were natural to do so, and the area was filled with light. She became something non-human in that instant. The gender of the king didn’t matter, and no one would care about the king’s appearance or even notice it, as long as the king acted like a king. Even if someone did notice that the king was a woman, it wouldn’t be a problem if she was a good king. This began the time of the king who would become a legend. She stopped aging at age 15, when she took Caliburn out of the stone. Artoria grew strong and gathered followers for ten years, including famous knights such as Gawain. Ten years after drawing Caliburn from the stone, she killed the usurper king Vortigern in the fortress city of Londinium with the use of Rhongomyniad and was crowned King of Britain.
Lore - Royalty
Artoria led Britain from Camelot, which was built with the help of the fairies on the ruins of Londinium. After becoming a feudal lord like her father, she became a king with many knights under her command, including the esteemed Knights of the Round Table. Her growth stopped the moment she drew her sword because of her magic, many knights feared her as menacing. Most instead praised their master's immortality as divine. Her battles after that were the acts of a war god. She always led from the front, and no enemy could stand in her way. There was no defeat for a body admired as a dragon in human form. She only knew victory for ten years and twelve battles as she ran through those days as the king. She never turned back and was never dishonored. She was raised as a king and fulfilled her duties as a king.
Lore - Personal Matters
Due to the trouble of being able to produce an heir, Merlin used magic to transform her into a pseudo-male capable of producing sperm for an unknown period of time. During this time, she was enchanted by her sister, Morgan le Fay, who took some of Artoria's sperm, developed it within her own ovaries, and gave birth to the homunculus and full clone of Artoria, Mordred. She was born and raised without Artoria's knowledge, growing rapidly due to her accelerated aging, and managed to join the Round Table through her own efforts and Morgan's recommendation. She worshipped her king while hiding her identity, and was ecstatic upon learning of her heritage. Upon claiming her inheritance and right to the throne, Artoria rejected Mordred completely and refused to acknowledge her as his heir. Mordred believed that the reason she was not accepted was due to her father's hatred for Morgan, and that no matter how hard she worked to rise above the others, she would forever be seen as a tainted existence. The love she had for the king up until that point was so great that his rejection caused her hatred to burn. She married Guinevere, but it was only out of obligation to have a wife. The truth is that Lancelot, one of Artoria's closest friends, and Guinevere loved each other, and because Artoria had hidden her gender, Guinevere had to carry the burden of this for her entire life. Guinevere felt guilty for her actions, but felt relief that it was Lancelot who fell in love with her. He, who shared the same ideals as the king, would share the burden with her and not cause the country to fall into a dangerous situation. He did this, supporting Guinevere and the Dark King in their unjust path.
Lore - Kingdom
Artoria had to act as the king's son, as the one who would rule the many territories and control the knights had to be male. While some people were suspicious of her, only her father, Merlin, and Kay knew the exact truth of her identity. She literally covered herself in steel to seal this truth away for her entire life, and due to her immortality from the protection of the fairies, no one questioned her small body or face that looked like that of a girl. She was honored by the knights as a handsome king, considered an invincible warrior whose appearance or body size had an impact on her position. During this time, the people who lived in fear of savage invasions only wanted a strong king, and the knights would only follow an excellent commander. Having met these criteria, no one questioned her. She was considered fair and selfless, as she always stood at the front of the army while defeating her enemies on the battlefield. While many enemies and civilians died, the king's choices were always considered correct, and she served as king better than anyone else. No one doubted or had any need to doubt, as long as the king was right. Her army rebuilt the lost cavalry, and, knowing no loss, they raced across the battlefield while defeating foreign infantry and destroying countless walls. Many people were discarded for her to join the battles, and all her enemies had to be defeated when she joined. It was common practice for the military to meet their needs by sucking all the resources of a local village to supply the battle and protect the country. It is safe to say that no knight killed more people than she did, and it is not known if she ever found it a burden.
Lore - Kingdom (Part 2)
She strictly kept the oath that a king is not human and that one cannot protect the people with human emotions. She never narrowed her eyes in sadness while sitting on the throne, and she solved all problems while working hard in government affairs. She managed to balance the country without deviation, and punished the people without a single mistake. Even after, or possibly because of, winning battles in victory, commanding citizens without disorder, and punishing hundreds of criminals, one of her knights muttered, “King Arthur does not understand human feelings.” It is possible that everyone felt this way, that the more perfect she became as a king, the more they had to question her as a ruler. They felt that an emotionless human could not rule others, leading several respectable knights to leave Camelot. She simply accepted that this was a natural event that was part of the process of ruling, isolating the handsome king honored by his knights. Having abandoned her emotions from the beginning, she did not change her mind even if she was abandoned, feared, or betrayed. There was no right or wrong for someone who saw such events as trivial. Her final battle for her country began in this way, and the battle at Badon Hill ended in complete victory. The savages sought reconciliation due to their overwhelming results, and her country that had only been waiting for destruction gained a brief period of peace. The country finally began to return to the country she had dreamed of.
Lore - Remains
Lancelot's affair with Guinevere was eventually revealed through the schemes of traitors who hated Camelot, causing them to oppose each other. Artoria did not see this inescapably unfair action as a betrayal, but instead understood Guinevere's sacrifice due to hiding her gender. She wrote a letter of forgiveness to Lancelot and Guinevere, and gave them her blessings, saying that their actions "must have a good cause". However, Lancelot was afraid and ran away, causing a tragedy where no one was right and no one was wrong. Excalibur's scabbard was stolen while she was repelling an attack along her country's borders; when she returned to the countryside, she discovered that Britain was being torn apart by civil unrest. Despite her valiant efforts to quell dissent, she was mortally wounded by the traitor knight Mordred during the Battle of Camlann. Looking upon the countless dead of her countrymen, she reflected on her personal failures, mourning her life as a king. Lamenting the ruinous end of her kingdom, she appealed to the Counter Force; in exchange for service as a Counter Guardian after her death, she requested to be given the opportunity to seek the Holy Grail to save her country. Accepting this contract, it caused her to be frozen in time and space on Camlann Hill as she was summoned countless times to all ages and all ages in search of the Holy Grail; falling into an endless loop of hell, from which there can be no salvation forever.
Artoria's reign as King Arthur lasted ten years, and twenty years had passed since she drew Caliburn. Artoria was 35 years old at the time of her death, though physically she still looked 15.
