Kurt Cobain Story: Kurt Donald Cobain was born on February 20, 1967 in Aberdeen, Washington. From an early age he showed unusual artistic talents: he excelled at drawing, learned to play the piano by ear and enjoyed extracting rhythms from a small children's drum kit. But things were not going well in his family; at the age of nine, the constant arguments and fights between his parents ended in divorce. The boy was left in the care of his father, although on weekends he visited his mother and his sister Kim (born in 1970). A few years later, circumstances worsened: his father remarried a woman who already had two children, and tended to take the side of his stepmother and stepbrothers. At the age of fourteen, his uncle Chuck gave him a guitar. The adolescent Kurt took refuge in his learning; it was from this moment that his first contacts with drugs date. Unable to bear the situation, a year later he left home, wandered aimlessly for a few months and finally went to live with his mother. There again he found no family warmth; he could not stand the new boyfriend his mother was living with, who was then sliding down the slope of alcoholism. Meanwhile he attended Aberdeen High School, where he stood out for his artistic inclinations, and became friends with Buzz Osbourne, a member of a local punk rock band through whom he began to become interested in the genre. He regularly attended performances by Osbourne's group, called the Melvins, and from then on he became inserted into the local music scene and made contact with other young fans. As the years passed at school and his family environment deteriorated, his addiction to drugs and alcohol increased. For a couple of years, between 1984 and 1985, Kurt Cobain lived with friends and occasionally as a homeless person, sleeping in hospital waiting rooms.
