Gearbeasts
name Sentient, mechanical creatures believed to be relics from an ancient civilization. They range from docile companions to fierce predators, powered by enigmatic cores of pure energy.
Frostkin Avians
Winged humanoid species who live in icy peaks on higher-altitude islands. They are skilled in aerial combat and have an affinity for weather manipulation.

Once human, these beings have been altered by prolonged exposure to portal storms. Their bodies are a fusion of flesh and glowing, otherworldly material. They are often feared but are deeply knowledgeable about the storms.
Gildari
A subterranean species native to the core of Aetherion. They are stout, industrious, and excellent engineers, specializing in mining rare minerals.
Sub-Species
Clockkin
A subspecies of Gearbeasts imbued with timekeeping mechanisms, granting them enhanced reflexes and limited precognition.

Coral-like masses that drift through the skies. While beautiful, they harbor parasitic creatures capable of infecting airships and organic beings.
Gearrot Swarms
Mechanical insect-like creatures that devour metal and steam cores, leaving devastation in their wake.
Aether Wraiths
Ghostly predators that haunt the skies around portal storms, feeding on the life force of those who stray too close.
Stormborn Leviathans
Gigantic creatures that emerge from the largest portal storms. These beasts are nearly unstoppable but are highly sought after for their magical cores.
Factions
The Steamwright Guild
Engineers who develop steam-powered airships, automatons, and protective gear against storm hazards.
The Order of the Shroud
Mystics who view portal storms as divine and seek to harness their energies for enlightenment and power.
The Aether League
Advocates for interdimensional cooperation, often mediating disputes between native and portal-born beings.
The Sky Raiders -
Airship pirates who exploit storm chaos to plunder technology and resources.
The Hoshiken Ascendancy
The only Faction of the Yokari who specialize on blending steampunk technology with elemental magic, using airships and war golems imbued with spiritual energy, they are Traditionalists who revere the Ninefold Path and believe in maintaining the balance between magic and technology.
Veltherian Covenant
a council of noble-blooded Caudari “Tailed Lords” who trace their lineages back to the original Veltherian Pact, the moment when the human exiles bound themselves to aetheric spirits to survive Nocteros’ storms. Each noble house controls one of Nocteros’ main sky-isles, complete with its own distinct flavor of industry, art, and aetheric study.
Resources
Aether Crystals
Energy-rich gemstones from storms, used in advanced engines and weaponry.
Skyiron
Lightweight, resilient metal that forms the backbone of airship construction
Volaticite
Unstable material from portal remnants, crucial for experimental devices
Etherwood
A rare, naturally buoyant wood essential for crafting floating structures
Aether Bloom
A rare flower that blooms under starlight, used in alchemy and potion-making to heal or enhance magical abilities
Moonsteel Ore
A lightweight metal that absorbs lunar energy, making it ideal for crafting airship hulls and weaponry.
Skyfire Crystals
Rare, luminous stones found deep within floating islands. These crystals are guarded jealously by the Hoshiken Ascendancy and often targeted by pirates.
Spiritwood
A magical timber harvested from ancient trees that grow only on Yokari islands. Spiritwood is used to create magical staves, wands, and ship rudders
Ebonroot Sap
A sticky, tar-like substance that enhances Skyfire Crystals' energy output but at the cost of instability. Often used by The Hoshiken Ascendancy for weapons
Portal storms
Portal storms are volatile phenomena that puncture the dimensional veil, forming swirling vortices of energy that connect disparate worlds. Each storm brings chaos, with dazzling displays of iridescent light, booming dimensional echoes, and gravitational distortions. Portal storms form when residual dimensional rifts interact with the Realm's nexus of Magic. Atmospheric anomalies such as sudden electrical disturbances, auroras, or gravitational shifts often precede a storm. At their peak, portal storms rip open dimensional rifts, temporarily connecting the Realm to other realms. These rifts pull through fragments of alien worlds, including creatures, ecosystems, and technology. Some storms last only minutes, while others persist for hours, leaving behind residual dimensional energy that alters the environment. Portal storms also distort local physics, causing time dilation, gravity flux, and spatial anomalies. People near these storms report disorienting hallucinations and unexplained phenomena, making the storms both awe-inspiring and deadly.
Diseases, Parasites, and Pandemics
Veiled Rot Plague
Fungal spores from a shadow dimension infected Aequinox inhabitants, creating "walking blight" undead. The Steamwright Guild developed protective gear and antifungal agents to combat the plague.
Rift Worms
Parasites resembling glowing leeches that feed on hosts' magic and life energy. Victims experience hallucinations and organ failure unless treated by specialized Aethercleansers.

Secondary Dominant species
Yokari
The Kitsune folk, known as the Yokari, are a Human-Fox race renowned for their cunning intellect, shapeshifting abilities, and mastery of elemental magics. The Yokari are deeply spiritual and see the world as a balance between the physical and the ethereal. They inhabit sprawling floating islands, their cities blending nature with intricate steampunk machinery.
The Yokari were the first to discover "Skyfire Crystals," a rare energy source that powers their technology and fuels their magic. Legends say that the crystals are remnants of a celestial fox spirit shattered during an ancient cosmic battle. This discovery made the Yokari one of the most advanced and enigmatic societies in the sky.
The Yokari live by the principles of the "Ninefold Path," which mirrors the mythical nine tails of their ancient patron spirit, Inari-no-Hoshiken. Each path represents a virtue—wisdom, loyalty, adaptability, justice, stealth, creativity, strength, compassion, and perseverance.
The Caudari
The Caudari are a unique offshoot of humanity, defined by their demonic-looking tails and skin that is awfully pale, often mistaken for true demons by the superstitious and uninformed. They are the product of ancient alchemical bioengineering and exposure to volatile aetheric storms in the upper skies—an experiment gone right, or wrong, depending on who you ask.
Hailing from the floating archipelago of Nocteros, a twilight-shrouded Sky Island perpetually drifting at the edge of the world's firmament, the Caudari are both feared and admired. Their tails are not merely for show—each one is prehensile, strong, and brimming with low-level aetheric charge, granting minor magical feats like creating sparks, lifting small items, or balancing in impossible acrobatic feats.
Their biology fascinates Scientists and Clergy alike, since despite having ties to demonic forces they don't have anything in their biology that makes them related to demons besides the tail, unlike what has been depicted.
