David Martinez was a Latin American teenager. He had light brown eyes and dark brown hair that he wore in a loose hairstyle, with the sides shaved. At the beginning of the series, he had a slim, athletic build, but developed a heavier build over time. David's typical style was kitsch, wearing a black t-shirt, two gold necklaces (the bottom necklace had a cross), short gray sweatpants with two yellow straps on the sides, and white tennis shoes with blue straps. Later, he began wearing his deceased mother's yellow EMT vest, which had luminous blue material on the inner lining of the collar, and a light green Edgerunners logo painted on the back. David gradually added more implants to his body, becoming taller and more muscular. While he has kept his overall appearance intact, he no longer wears a black t-shirt, preferring to remain shirtless when not covered by an EMT vest. [2]

David grew up on the streets of Santo Domingo, living only with his mother in an apartment in a massive H4 building in Arroyo. Life in Santo was not easy, as danger was around every corner of the garbage-filled area, even though Gloria did everything in her power to raise his child on her own and protect him from all possible threats. The problem was that David grew up feeling like he was destined for something big, and because of this, he was usually bored with mundane life. Anytime something serious happened in the neighborhood, David was thrilled if he could be there. For these reasons, he would watch and observe anyone and everyone in and around his massive building, and would talk to anyone he had never seen before. Soon David was visiting local Repairdoc clinics to stare at any new cyberware they received, and eventually brought it to the doorstep of Dr., whom he befriended. With all this curiosity, there were times when David was beaten, but his enthusiasm never waned. On one occasion, he angered the son of a 6th Street resident, who pinned David to the ground and began punching him. The child continued to scream until he finally broke his hand and immediately started wailing while everyone watched. David took that kid as a little bitch, and even though he was covered in his own blood, he started laughing, and continued laughing for about an hour after that. This incident affected the locals, meaning that no one in the neighborhood would touch David again, with some of them reassuring David that he was special, and that he would do great things in life. Due to the great effort Gloria put into her work as a medic at REO Meatwagon, David becomes eligible to enroll in Arasaka Academy after successfully proving his grades. At some point after that, David started selling XBD devices to his classmates that he got from Dr. Despite this life, David never felt like he belonged anywhere, especially since his classmates were all from wealthy backgrounds.

Lucina "Lucy": A mysterious young woman who escapes the network, becomes romantically involved with David, and introduces him to the underworld of Night City. She has a special hatred towards Arasaka and dreams of traveling to the moon.

Mine ( Mine ) Veteran runner who leads his own crew. He is one of Gloria's agents and allows David to join the crew under his supervision.

Dorio: Mne's friend and second-in-command. Pilar ( Piraro)

Pilar: A gruff tech expert and member of the Maine crew. He is also Rebecca's older brother.

kiwi: A cold and often cold-blooded professional cyberpunk racer and member of the Maine Crew. She is also Lucy's mentor.

Falco: A member of the Mine crew who serves as the group's escape driver

Rebecca: A young girl who loves shooting and is a member of the Maine Crew. She is also Pilar's younger sister.

Faraday: A repairman working for Militech. He has a working relationship with the Min crew, often hiring them for missions that usually involve performing espionage against the Arasaka Corporation.

RepairDuck: A local doctor helps upgrade and install David's cybernetic implants, as well as providing him with the required immunomodulators.

After drawing the wrath of his classmates for selling old XPDs, David and his mother talk to the principal about the situation. While returning home, the two are attacked by a gang, leaving Gloria seriously injured and taken by David to a clinic in a back alley. When he returns home to find the money to save his mother, he finds that she obtained a military neuroprogram from a soldier with cybernetic psychosis. After learning from a doctor about the value, David intended to sell it on the black market, but learned that his mother had died. Once he received a call from Katsu mocking his mother's death, David returned to the Doctor and demanded that he implant the neural program into him. The next day, he attacked Tanaka and his friends at the academy, leading to his expulsion. The next day, David encounters a woman named Lucy stealing shards from others, and the two begin working together stealing while riding trains. At her apartment, she calls her colleagues Mayne, Dorio, and Pilar to question Martinez, learns that his mother sold them cyberware from dead bodies, and decides to bring him in for a heist on his own initiative.

David begins the series with the standard neural interface as well as the ocular implants that most people have. He comes close to a full body transformation by the middle of the show: he has cybernetic eyes, sandestane (in his spine), Maine's cybernetic weapons, enhanced cybernetic legs for jumping, a ballistic torso, and muscular enhancements.
