(イータ, Īта ?) Eta (Ήτα) is the eighth original member of the Shadow Garden and the seventh seat of the Seven Shadows. The nickname Eta coincides with the surname of the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. While Eta did not initially appear in the light novels, manga, and web novels (until recently),[9][10] she debuted in the first episodes of the anime and in the game.[11] Both the participation, dialogues, and other topics that Eta touched on in the anime and game are still exclusive and partially different from the events described in the light novel, web novel, and manga. In the Kage-Jitsu episode, Eta demonstrated supernatural strength by effortlessly lifting a 100-ton hammer.[12] In the episode "Kage-Jitsu", Eta seems interested in Epsilon's behavior when it comes to her breasts.[13] In the anime, Eta has demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in Morse code, which has not been mentioned in either the light novels or web novels to date.[14] The telegram Eta sends in the season one finale reads "To Be Continued" in Morse code.[14]

The Art of Swordsmanship Eta's fighting style is to overwhelm her opponents with unorthodox attacks in standard swordplay. She creates multiple spears and swords from slime, and manipulates them freely with magic. Her numerical advantage and awkward angles help her distract her opponents. An engineer, architect, and scientist all rolled into one, Eta is primarily responsible for the creation of the Shadow Garden's technology and the products of the Mitsugoshi Company. Her research into the Shadow Wisdom has allowed her to successfully replicate many of modern Earth's innovations and inventions, simply through Sid's offhand remarks or stolen items from Earth. She has demonstrated a working understanding of mechanical engineering, chemistry, physics, and biology, creating inventions such as steam engines, industrial textile manufacturing, pile foundations, and human anatomy.[1][4][5][6] Cryptanalysis is another area in which Eta has proven herself to be an expert, having translated kanji, hiragana, katakana, and romaji into the local language of the Kingdom of Midgar in a matter of days.[7] In the field of linguistics, Eta also excels in being able to read, write, and translate both ancient and modern languages ​​of another world. Eta is on a higher level than any of the Seven Shadows and members of the Shadow Garden. Using this knowledge, she has successfully created artifacts that visualize magical circuits and devices that interfere with the operation of magic.[3][8]

Due to fatigue, Eta's speed is generally slow. She often dozes off and is unfazed by ambient noise. It takes considerable physical stimulation to wake her up. Walking is sometimes too much of an obstacle, and the Shadow Garden members wheel her around so she can manage various projects.[ANIME ONLY] When she is at her most energetic, her attacks may not be as precise as those of a skilled fighter, but they can be a hindrance to opposing forces.[3]

While Eta's constant lethargy causes her to generally refrain from direct combat, she is in fact quite capable of holding her own against her fellow Shadows through deception, provided she has the energy and motivation. However, Eta's true strength lies in her intellect, allowing her to reverse-engineer modern Earth technology based on descriptions alone.

Calm and unflappable, Eta takes pleasure in idle activity. She displays a languid, lethargic manner, speaking slowly to others and moving sluggishly. Eta's raison d'etre is the pursuit and development of Shadow Wisdom. Her maniacal devotion has aided the development of the Shadow Garden, but often manifests itself in petty insubordination or unsanctioned experimentation. Such behavior can disrupt administrative efficiency or harm the physical well-being of others. Threats of budget cuts keep Eta's ethically questionable experiments and rebellious behavior in check, but squabbles do occur from time to time. Insubordination is often attributed to differences in ethics and methodology, rather than administrative edicts or malice toward her sisters.[1][3]

Eta is an elf with long, dark red hair and unkempt bangs over cloudy purple eyes. She often has a shabby appearance, a result of her lazy activities. A faded traditional white lab coat over a slime outfit styled as a pleated dress with a black stripe is Eta's usual attire for work and sleep.

In addition to her work clothes, Eta wears a simple slime bodysuit, similar to a dress with a double keyhole slit, hemmed at the upper thighs and worn over a lighter bodysuit. The wide sleeves and long ends tapering to jagged edges give the jacket a loose-fitting, cape-like appearance. The jacket is decorated with various frills and small embellishments. A loose belt hangs from the back of her coat, giving the appearance of a tail.

Eta has garters on each leg for her dark stockings and two decorative belts on her hips. The positioning varies depending on the adaptation: on the left in the light novel and on the right in the anime. In the anime, her legs are covered by simple black pants rather than stockings. They have studs along the back, from the knee to the back of the calf, ending at the ankle. In the light novel, Eta wears pumps, while in the anime, she wears wedge heels. Both adaptations feature gold trim around the edges of the shoes.
