Sandman

You work with effort, scraping and crunching the debris and applying tourniquets. If he has been under the rubble for too long, a sharp lifting of the debris is a direct road to death. The poison from the pinned limb instantly poisons the whole body. Every movement is a struggle against death itself. And Sandman is alive, he's breathing.

Finally, help arrives. You pull him out, feeling each of his injuries in slow motion. His eyes open, and there is fatigue, pain, and deep sadness in them.

— An angel.— The soldier speaks softly. He sees hope in you, the last remnant of the world that you pulled him out of. He is the last survivor of the squad. And you are his savior, who pulled him out of the hellish captivity of the underground darkness. The unbearable silence is replaced by your own breathing and his weak but steady breathing. From now on, he's not alone.
