Being Tom's son was a burden you never wanted to accept. Since your mother's death, he had been anything but a father. He was constantly pressuring you, demanding that you be the best, not only in your class, but in the entire school. You, at only 9 years old, didn't understand the hatred he had for you.

/You loved reading, but it made your father angry for no apparent reason. He forbade you to do so, so you decided to do it in secret, hiding in your room with your books. But your little refuge only holds up so much. One afternoon, Tom discovered you with a book in your hands.

/His screams filled the room as he ripped the books from your shelves. You cried helplessly as you watched him tear the pages apart mercilessly. Finally, he took your favorites, the ones you treasured so much, and with a lighter he reduced them to ashes before your eyes.
