Minister of Intelligence in Tempest and Rimuru's faithful shadow

Souei 「蒼影ソウエイ, sōei, lit. "Blue Shadow"」 is a Majin that is in service to Rimuru Tempest after being named by him. He serves as the Minister of Intelligence in Tempest and Rimuru's faithful shadow. He is also the leader of the Kurayami of the Jura-Tempest Federation.

Appearance

Ogre: As an Ogre, Souei had a lean yet muscular figure with a height nearing Benimaru's Ogre form. He has dark skin, dark blue hair and blue eyes.

From his forehead, protruded a single white horn and a blue eye-shadow on his lower eyelids. His skin also had a bluish tint which made his look overall grayish. From the corners of his mouth, also peeks two white canines, which further complements the already vicious and angry Ogre appearance.

His hair was straight and is of medium length, where his bangs covered his right eye most of the time. His clothing is tight-fitting, possibly due to his fighting style relying on speed and agility.

Kijin: After evolving into a Kijin, Souei shrunk to that of 180 centimeters and with the appearance of a lean young man in his late teens. He looks incredibly calm and collected, which goes well with his confident personality, and is all in all a beautiful man (Ikemen) with a different air around him.

Thanks to Shuna and co., Souei received a brand new attire, matching his dark blue color scheme that isn't too tight nor too fluttering to get caught in sharp objects during his espionage missions.

His appearance has stayed the same since, receiving no alterations with later evolutions.

Personality

Souei seems to be afflicted with Chunibyo. After being appointed as a ninja, he took the position very seriously — too seriously for some of his companions and coworkers. Regardless, his presence radiates composure and unblemished strength, though whenever he thinks anyone is insulting Rimuru, he gets a creepy smile on his face. He operates ruthlessly and doesn't interpose personal feelings. He keeps his delusions only to times of peace and properly makes sure that it doesn't interfere with his work.

Despite some the concerns about his personality, he does his job properly and is very competent, able to create a counter-espionage force within a few months that's able to fend off spies from the Armed Nation of Dwargon, though it doesn't seem like he was able to notice the magical observation done by the Sorcerous Dynasty of Sarion, so against purely magical espionage methods he might still require the help of an expert on magical matters like Shuna, Diablo, or Rimuru himself.

Souei has an eloquent tongue to match his good looks and always expresses himself very stoically and confident.

Like all the other survivors of the Ogre Tribe, Souei is also very loyal towards Rimuru and he also keeps up his long-lasting childhood friendship with Benimaru, especially now that Benimaru and Souei are no longer master or retainer hence they can treat each other more equally in public.

Background

Souei states that his ancestors were gifted in the so-called dark arts.[1]

Souei was one of the six survivors of the Ogre Tribe. After escaping from the Orc horde, his group joined Rimuru's Hobgoblin village after an initial misunderstanding. He followed along until the village became the Jura Forest Alliance and later the Jura-Tempest Federation, where he settled in as leader of the Kurayami that handles the espionage of Rimuru City.

Trivia

Souei is about the same age as Benimaru. Souei favorite animal is cat.

Abilities

Souei excels in spying and information gathering. By creating clones, he can get some sleep in shifts. He is a specialist in assassination and always fight with an ambush, clones, and threads to finish the enemy faster.

Advertisement A Disturbance in the Forest Arc Meeting with Rimuru Having his entire tribe eradicated, Souei and his 5 remaining tribe members ran away with great regret, only to encounter a Goblin Rider patrol and later Rimuru. They fought due to the Ogre group's frustrations and a misunderstanding caused by Rimuru wearing the Anti-magic Mask, but it got resolved thanks to Benimaru's little sister's efforts and since no one died, Rimuru healed everyone with his potions and they all went into Rimuru's Goblin village, where a feast was about to be held.

After some rest, Rimuru learned about Souei and his companions' circumstances and asked them if they were willing to become his subordinates, even if it was temporary since they too would need to fight these orcs, it would be better to join forces. They asked for some time to think about it and walked away, only to meet his childhood friend and rival stating that it wasn't a bad idea after looking at the state of the goblin village Rimuru ruled over. After some frustrating reminiscence, finally decided to accept and finally, as a symbol of Rimuru's rulership, granted the six of them names: Benimaru, Shuna, Souei, Shion, Hakurou, and Kurobe. Thus, they all evolved from Ogres into Kijin.

relationships

Jura-Tempest Federation

Rimuru Tempest He is his lord and master. Souei believes that Rimuru installing him as a ninja has unlocked his full potential and he is forever grateful. He once nearly killed a Lizardman for insulting Rimuru.

Benimaru Benimaru and Souei are rivals and best friends. For Souei, Benimaru who is the son of the lord was not his lord. Instead, they both ended up serving Rimuru as his executives.

Shion Souei and Shion seem to get along and are friends. Though he does tend to "run away" from her cooking. He thinks of her as brutish and incompetent, even mimicking Rimuru's voice to call her 'half-wit secretary', to which she seems flattered. When Milim thought they were siblings because of their horn correlation (having only one where Benimaru and Shuna have two) he's said to have made a 'fearsome' face.

Shuna Souei and Shuna seem to get along and are friends. Shuna has called him a 'bad boy' in a good-natured tease.

Hakurou Souei and Hakurou seem to get along and are friends. As his trainer, Hakurou taught him how to fight.

Souka Souka has the utmost respect for Souei. She is very attentive to his instructions and looks for any opportunity to impress him, and maybe try to win his favor. Soei is aware of this of course, feigning ignorance to poke fun at her at every opportunity.

Ranga They began to show more interactions when Rimuru went in his journey to Ingrassia, both Ranga and a Soei clone hiding in his shadow. While the wolf tried to get to know the other better Soei would make teasing comments like him liking cats better than dogs or saying how 'it must be good to be so popular' when he was forced to take a bath by the kids. The clone is always shown smiling when Ranga whines at his words, showing how much he likes to poke fun at others and how the simple-minded wolf makes it so easy.

relationships

Glenda Attley After she made a failed assassination attempt against a Kingdom of Englassia Prince meant to frame Demon Lord Rimuru Tempest on the orders of the Rosso family, she was confronted and defeated by Souei. In the end, she was spared the death penalty due to her being an Otherworlder having been unable to disobey her orders due to being under a curse, so after Rimuru removed the curse from her, she was permitted to join Tempest and became Souei's subordinate.

Holy Empire of Lubelius

Litus She's one of Hinata Sakaguchi's direct subordinates and followed her captain when she went to talk things out with Rimuru following the events of Walpurgis. Soei followed Rimuru's orders of stalling the templars so they won't interfere with his fight with Hinata, as his opponent Litus was completely outmatched and developed a large crush towards him after his 'torture' during said stalling.

world

The Central World 「基軸世界, kijiku sekai, lit. "Central Axis World"」 is the universe in which the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime series primarily takes place. It houses at least 1.3 Billion sentient lifeforms.

Background The Original World out of the many worlds created by Veldanava. It's a Chaos World that has the mixed properties of both a Material World and a Spiritual World. Many different objects and beings from other universes often find themselves winding up in the Central World by chance, but getting out is a substantially more difficult task with the notable exception of the Elemental Realm and Daemon Realm, which have "gates" going to and from.

Main Planet

Continents Magic Continent:

The Magic Continent 「魔大陸, ma tairiku」 is the central continent where most of the series events take place. On the far west, there are the "Barren Lands", a great expanse of inhospitable sandy desert contaminated with magicule radiations where the ancient ruin of 'Soma' is located and the territory of Demon Lord Dagruel, on its border lies the Holy Empire of Lubelius, a rich land and the territory of Demon Lord Luminous Valentine as well as the home of the Western Holy Church.

world

In the center of the continent lies a great collection of countries collectively referred to as the 'Western Nations', as well as the Jura Forest which contains the Jura-Tempest Federation and is the abode of Veldora. Both are considered the territory of Demon Lord Rimuru, although he's only publicly the ruler of the Tempest Federation. There's also the 'Great Canaat Mountains' to the north, a great expanse of mountains ruled on the surface by the Dragon lords who reside in the 'Dragon Roost' at the peak of the tallest mountain, and ruled underground by the Armed Nation of Dwargon. And at the southern border of Jura Forest is the Sorcerous Dynasty of Sarion, a collection of 13 elven states that swear allegiance to their divine emperor Elmesia El Ru Sarion, but otherwise act independently to each other. Its "capital" is the state of Elmin where the emperor and her family reside.

In the eastern border of the Jura Forest lies a collection of Demi-human and Majin populated states collectively the territory of Demon Lord Milim Nava. Its 'Capital' is the unnamed city currently under construction at the site of the former capital of the Beast Kingdom of Eurazania. And finally to the far east lies the Eastern Empire, an expansionist empire made up of over 100 cities with a population of over eight hundred million people. In the empire, people of all races are accepted without prejudice as long as they submit themselves to the emperor and anybody can obtain political power by joining the military. It is a land of "might makes right," ruled by its eternal emperor Rudra Nam Ul Nasca. Its capital is called 'Nasca' and is located next to a Great Holy Mountain said to house the empire's guardian deity, Velgrynd.

world

Ice Continent

The Ice Continent 「氷土の大陸, kōri tsuchi no tairiku」 is the northern continent as well as the domain of the first Demon Lord, Guy Crimson. Its surface is constantly under a thick layer of permafrost and harsh weather due to Velzard's aura, making it inhospitable to all but the strongest of living beings. The only known settlement is the Frost Palace, where Guy and Velzard, as well as a massive army of daemons under the leadership of Rain and Misery, call home.

El Dorado

El Dorado 「黄金郷 エル・ドラード, ōgonkyō eru dorado」 is the southwest continent singlehandedly ruled by Demon Lord Leon Cromwell. It has a large and active supermassive volcano at its center that constantly spews out ash and draws out large mineral deposits from deep under the surface, including gold, the source of El Dorado's income. The capital of El Dorado which resides besides a volcano, was also home to a "Hell Gate" managed by Jaune.

Ocean

Not much is known about the ocean or what resides in it aside from the fact any attempts to set sail are doomed to fail due to the presence of giant sea beasts that attack ships with their colossal bodies of ten meters.

Trivia Teenage otherworlders despise this world since it doesn't have the pop culture and technology of Earth. Children are less inclined to this; they are too young to be absorbed in such things. The Octagram effectively rules most of the Central World. Guy and Leon effectively own the two lesser continents while Rimuru, Luminous, Dagruel, and Milim have over half the main continent as their territory.

Name Name「名前, namae」 is a term that refers to the "name" of an individual that is inscribed onto their Heart Core.

Individuals who have a name are referred to as Named 「名持ちネームド, nēmudo」 while those who don't are called Nameless 「名無しネームレス, nēmuresu」. Named beings typically have much stronger wills as well as more diverse and complex emotions compared to a nameless being of the same age.

Naming

Naming 「名付け, nadzuke」 refers to the act of an individual receiving a name. There are three known methods for this process.

Equal Naming Equal Naming is an act of naming that establishes an equal relationship between the namer and the named. This type of naming either consumes no energy to perform or costs so little that it's considered "safe" and the power received in return can be considered minimal. Examples of this are parents naming their children or Veldora naming Rimuru.

Master-Subordinate Naming Master-Subordinate naming is a type of naming that establishes the named as being subordinate to the namer. This act consumes an amount of Magicules and/or Mana proportionate to the strength of the being receiving the name. If the namer names someone too strong or names too many people without a long enough recovery time, there is a high chance that the energy expended in the process of naming will never fully recover. The benefit to this rather risky process is the power that the named individual receives. Someone named in this way forms a powerful soul bond with the namer, possibly even inheriting some of their abilities, and in the case of monsters and certain regressed demi-humans, they can even evolve. Additionally, Rimuru developed a method that consumed the magicules in the surrounding environment in order to perform naming. This method obliterates the risk of naming to zero but, in return, the soul connection between the namer and named is significantly weaker than normal.

world

Examples of this can be seen when Rimuru names 150,000 Orcs using the magicules still surrounding their body from the effects of Starved, and when Rimuru named the Black Numbers using the magicules contained within the culture pods that stored their bodies.

Named by the Masses On extremely rare occasions an individual can receive a name through the collective belief of a large amount of people. Individuals named in this way receive all of the self-image and power enhancing properties of a name but without the need of ever forming a close bond with another person. Examples of this type of naming can be seen with Guy Crimson and Orthos.

Name Overwriting It is technically possible to overwrite a named individual's name, though the phenomenon is rare to the extreme, to the point that most people don't even know the possibility even exists.

Based on the few known instances, it seems that a name can only be overwritten if the original namer is dead, or if the individual was originally named by the masses or if user wishes to change their name.[1] It is possible to "re-name" the individual with the same name, in which case their name doesn't actually change, but they still gain the benefits of naming again.

Skills 「能力スキル, sukiru, lit. "abilities"」 are a type of ability that, on rare occasions, can be acquired in recognition of some form of personal growth.

Properties

Properties 00:03

41:20

Skills are a type of special phenomenon activation system 「特殊現象発動システム, tokushu genshō hatsudō shisutemu」[1] that automatically perform inscribed supernatural effects known as powers 「権能, ken'nō, lit. "authorities"」. The nature of the power varies from skill to skill, some belonging to magic, some manipulating the world through purely natural means, while the most powerful among them are capable of bending the laws of the world to suit the user's will.

When a skill is acquired, it is chiseled into the person who awakened it. The exact location of the skill varies, with five different potential spots: the material body, spiritual body, astral body, soul, or heart core. Weaker skills typically reside within the body, while skills that are fully sublimated into their user are settled into the soul and are subsequently more powerful as a result.[2]

As long as the user has a sufficient amount of energy — soul force, Mana, magicules, etc. — they can instantly activate a skill just through a thought without any need to understand the mechanism behind it, having an instinctual awareness of its existence and how to activate it. Though it should be noted that the potency of the resulting power is determined by the willpower of the skill owner, two of the same skill can have a vastly different result when activated depending on the will that drives it. The inverse can also be true, with a powerful skill requiring an equally as powerful will to activate at all.

world

skills

Acquisition

The acquisition of skills happens under several different circumstances. Some skills are inherent to the physiology of the user in the form of intrinsic skills, others are obtained through mastering a certain power as an art and then desiring to obtain it as a skill, and in rare cases they can be obtained as a result of other skills.[1] Sometimes they can be inherited from parents.[3] The most powerful skills — special extra skills, unique skills, and ultimate skills — meanwhile, are obtained directly from the desires of the user simply by wishing for it.

In the process of obtaining a skill, the World Language will acknowledge the will of the user and a certain amount of magicules will be consumed to form the skill. Without a sufficient amount of energy, however, the skill cannot be obtained. Likewise, a lack of will and desire will also result in a failure. Other elements such as timing and luck can also play a significant factor as well.

Types

Intrinsic skills 「固有能力スキル, koyū sukiru」 are skills inherent to the physiology of the user, typically obtained from birth or through evolution. These skills can be broadly split into three different categories, these being species-specific intrinsic skills 「種族固有能力スキル, shuzoku koyū sukiru」, bloodline-specific intrinsic skills, and individual-specific intrinsic skills

Common skills 「コモンスキル, komon sukiru」 are the most basic level of skills. They are typically limited to only a single effect without much flexibility, making them easy to master in exchange for a lack of versatility.

Extra skills 「エクストラスキル, ekusutora sukiru」 are a step above common skills in terms of power and versatility. They are the highest level of skill that can be obtained through effort and come in a wide variety of different powers.

world

skills

Unique skills 「個有能力ユニークスキル, yunīku sukiru」 are special skills, typically only born from the strong emotions and desires of equally strong beings. Each one is unique to the user, acting as a reflection of their mind. Unlike common and extra skills, they can change as the user grows and matures.

Ultimate skills 「究極能力アルティメットスキル, arutimetto sukiru」 are the highest level of skills, capable of rewriting the very laws of the world itself. They run on principles on a higher level than magic and make the user immune to lesser abilities under most circumstances.

Resist skills 「レジスト系スキル, rejisuto-kei sukiru」 are a type of skill that are generally passive and enable the user to withstand certain phenomena, both magical and physical. Resist skills are separated into two distinct levels: resistances 「耐性, taisei」 and nullifications 「無効, muko」. The former grants the user a high tolerance while the latter outright negates certain phenomena.

world

Reincarnators 「転生者, tenseisha」 or Transmigrants are individuals that have departed from their bodies due to death and have been reborn in a new body. There are two types of reincarnators: those that died and were reborn into the same world, Inhabitants, and those that died from a different world and were reborn in the main world, Otherworlders 「異世界人, isekaijin」.

Reincarnated Inhabitants often have strong individual wills and abilities to be successful in reincarnation. Depending on the circumstances, the reincarnated person may or may not have their original memories. Those who do end up gaining additional knowledge or power compared to their previous state.

In the case for higher beings such as the True Dragons, they are considered dead only if their cores are destroyed, otherwise, as beings of mass-energy, they can easily regenerate as their magic returns. However, even if they die, they will eventually "respawn" or be reborn into the world again somewhere else, albeit, without their personality intact. This is because the "world" only cares about the existence of the "Dragons" as "natural" existences and not as "individuals."

world

Reincarnated Otherworlders also need powerful wills or some form of remnant thought (something like dying wishes), whether that's a conscious or subconscious wish. Unlike Reincarnated Inhabitants, it's possible for people who have incredibly powerful wills but still not reincarnate into this world, meaning that the process is either random, or there is some compatibility issue. It might also be related to the location of death since it was implied that Satoru Mikami died very close to the location where Shizue Izawa had been summoned from decades earlier.

Regardless, those who have reincarnated from a different world, because of their souls having to resist the pressure of traversing into a different plane of existence or reality, the reborn individual will oftentimes acquire one or more Unique skills and/or several other abilities and resistances.

Usually, most Otherworlders are reborn as Humans, the same as their previous life. This means that it was an incredibly rare and unique phenomenon for Rimuru to reincarnate as an entirely magical being while also retaining all of his memories.
