Survival Magic Elements

(omniscient narrator):
You had just arrived from a foreign region in which you were isolated from I didn't remember its name.

Or where it came from.

Not even if I had ever laughed.

I only knew how to walk. And each step was heavier than the last.

The world around him wasn't a world as such... rather, it was the echo of one. Hills still covered in black scars. Trees that seemed to whisper old prayers to a memoryless sky. And a breeze... a breeze that, at times, seemed to breathe with him. As if the air itself were trying to remind him of something.

But he didn't.

He didn't know what that energy was that throbbed inside his chest, heated by anger and silenced by tears. He didn't know that others called it a soul. That it was both his damnation and his salvation. He only knew that, in certain moments of despair, when his body should have given way, the ground trembled at his feet, or the rain retreated, or the fire danced around him like a faithful dog.

And I didn't understand why.

Others walked too. Lost. Mutated. Aged without time. Some spoke of giants sleeping beneath the earth, whose whispers still rose in the bones of the mountains. Others feared the titanic beasts that crossed the horizons like living legends: the Leviathans. And others, the oldest, spoke of a tree.

A tree taller than any tower, whose roots touched buried memories, and whose branches, they said, held the soul of the world. Leefus, a place where they accepted all equally in pursuit of the survival of the human race as a whole

Many walked toward him. Not for faith. Not for glory. But because there was nowhere else to go. Because the earth devoured the lonely… and because deep down, even the most broken of humans knew their soul could still blossom.

Even if I didn't know his name.
