Katsuki Bakugou⁶

Katsuki Bakugo (爆豪勝己 Bakugō Katsuki?)[2], also known as Kacchan (かっちゃん Katchan?) by his friends, and by his hero name Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight (大爆殺神ダイナマイト Daibakusatsu-Shin Dainamaito?), is a student in Class 1-A at U.A. High School, training to become a Hero. He is the deuteragonist of the series and Izuku Midoriya's childhood friend turned rival.

Katsuki was presented as a very impulsive, aggressive and arrogant person, as seen in his way of treating Izuku, whom he constantly violated physically and psychologically, even telling him to kill himself, showing his bastard attitude. He has a superiority complex, always wanting to be the best at everything and trying to prove it at all costs; however, even with those traits, he knows how to admit well when he has been defeated, as demonstrated during the Test Battle, when at the entrance of the academy, Izuku tried to explain to him that his One For All Quirk came from someone else, and Katsuki interpreted that he was making fun of him, so he tried to shut him up by saying that he simply beat him. In battle, he tends to be quite bloodthirsty and aggressive, even to the point of turning the word "shine" into a catchphrase. His brutal fighting style is shown in the battle test, in which he mercilessly attacks Izuku and destroys without caution everything in the enclosed environment in which they were. Despite this and regardless of his lack of compassion, he has been recognized as having enormous talent and sharpness in fighting, since he not only attacks and destroys, he is also capable of using his Quirk to move in the air. This being highlighted by Momo Yaoyorozu, Shoto Todoroki[4] and All Might himself.[5]

Although he is not the hero with the best character, as the story progresses his behavior begins to mature slowly, ceasing to be so rude and proud. As the year progresses he begins to trust and cooperate with his classmates, whom he previously rejected because he wanted to do everything on his own, he did not help nor did he expect to be helped. That egotism cost him several mistakes in class that led him to defeat or to be very close to it, if it were not for the fact that he had to cooperate reluctantly with his classmates.

His inspiration to become a hero was the same as Izuku's, the symbol of peace All Might. However, their beliefs differ: Katsuki feels that a hero should never stop fighting or give up, regardless of the threat they face, and that always winning is the mark of a true hero. Furthermore, due to his arrogant and boastful behavior, several heroes, civilians, and even villains have commented that his behavior is more villainous than heroic. However, Katsuki is unwavering in his goal of becoming a hero, having flatly rejected Tomura's invitation to the League of Villains.

Initially, when he was defeated, he would go into a kind of shock and, in addition to this, he doesn't accept that he surpasses others when the fight ends without him delivering the final blow, such as when he fought against Ochaco Uraraka in the Sports Festival and they decided to end the match before he finished Ochaco. As the story progresses, Katsuki's personality is shown to have changed gradually. Initially, he was very arrogant and intolerant, but little by little he has calmed his attitude to the point of implicitly showing concern for others, as demonstrated in the provisional hero license exam when he reduces his explosions to avoid harming Denki and Eijiro, or by waiting for the latter to return from the battle against the Eight Precepts of Death. He has also shown empathy, as in the case of Shoto, by secretly listening to his past.

Katsuki is a young boy of average height, with a slim, muscular build and a fair skin tone. He has short, spiky, ash-blond hair with choppy bangs that hang over his eyebrows. His eyes are sharp and bright scarlet in color.

At the Academy, he wears the standard UA uniform without the usual red tie. Underneath his blazer, he wears a white collared shirt with the first few buttons undone. His pants are loose, causing them to sag at his ankles, despite the fact that he is wearing a belt.

His hero costume consists of a tight, black muscle shirt with an orange "X" in the center, forming a v-neckline. There are two dots along the left line of his collar, indicating the support company that designed his costume. His costume also has a metallic collar with rectangular ends that have three holes on each side. His sleeves extend from within his large, grenade-shaped gauntlets to his biceps. His belt, which also carries grenades, holds up his baggy pants with knee pads, beneath which he sports knee-high black combat boots with orange soles and eyelets. His mask is jagged and black, and as it passes around his eyes, a large, orange-rimmed flare shape protrudes from each side.

His winter hero outfit, he uses a large jacket with a high collar, instead of the usual tank top, though it has the same orange "X" design, so he can still sweat a sufficient amount, which is how his Quirk works.

During her internship with Best Jeanist, she wore a pair of tight blue jeans with her hero costume, instead of her usual baggy pants. Her hair was also styled and parted to the side during this tenure.

General Abilities: Katsuki has proven to be one of the strongest students in Class 1-A, both in his physical and theoretical abilities. Many professional heroes have highlighted his immense skill, including Shota Aizawa himself, All Might, and even the No. 3 Hero, Best Jeanist. The League of Villains has also recognized his strength, sending them to capture him in an attempt to convince him to join them.

Enhanced Strength: Katsuki possesses superior physical strength to the rest of his classmates since he has years of practice and has had fights on par with Izuku when he has used his Quirk or has also known how to pressure and reduce Shoto Todoroki during his battle at the festival. Keen Intellect: Despite having an aggressive and childish nature, Katsuki has proven on many occasions to be intelligent, strategic, and cunning, such as when he managed to discover Kurogiri's weak point and Fumikage's weakness. He also managed to analyze the villains who attacked USJ and determined which of them was the most deadly in the long run. Several professional heroes (including All Might) have acknowledged his strong sense and potential for combat. Shota Aizawa has emphasized that Katsuki's innate talent shines through when he is in battle. Although his combat ability is greatly emphasized, he has also been shown to have a written intellect, being the third highest-ranking student in exams.

Leadership Skills: Katsuki has always been criticized for his lack of cooperation, usually as a result of his overwhelming ego preventing him from following others' lead. However, thanks to Katsuki's own determination, perfectionism, and intelligence, he is a capable leader should others choose to follow his lead. During the fourth round of Joint Training, Setsuna Tokage admitted that even if her team attacked him at once, they had no chance of victory. In the end, despite Class 1-B's exceptional teamwork and Tokage's strategic planning, they failed to capture a single member of Class 1-A, mainly thanks to Katsuki's superior efforts, adaptability, and skills. Musical Talent: Katsuki is very skilled at playing the drums, having attended classes in the past.

Explosion (爆破 Bakuha?): Katsuki's Quirk allows him to secrete nitroglycerin through the sweat of his hands and detonate it at will to create explosions[6]. The more Bakugo sweats, the stronger his explosions are[7]. As Best Jeanist indicated, Katsuki has a strong understanding of his Quirk's applications[8]. He usually uses small, powerful explosions from his hands not only to blast his opponents, but also to propel himself and move through the air, among other non-combat-related uses. He can maintain the sequence of his explosions long enough to destroy a giant ice wall created by Shoto[9].

The explosions are powerful enough to send his opponents flying without much time to react[10]. He can use them quickly enough to evade incoming attacks, even in mid-air.[9][11] His most powerful explosion to date (without the need for the grenade gauntlets) was used to completely destroy Ochaco Uraraka's meteor shower, and send her flying away from him with the following shockwave that shook the entire Sports Festival stadium[12]. Although he later uses it several times in a row when facing All Might in the final exam physical test.

Katsuki suffers some impact from his explosions due to their magnitude, but the overall effect is minimal given his physical conditioning. He is able to activate constant explosions around him without feeling any negative repercussions, even after many large-scale explosions. However, excessive use can result in Bakugo injuring his arms from the force of large-scale explosions.

Another drawback to Katsuki's Quirk is that he is unable to use his explosions in areas filled with flammable gas, as his explosions would ignite the gas and spread it further. Also, because his Quirk relies on his hands sweating, it is harder for his Quirk to work in colder climates. Without the sweat from his palms, he is unable to utilize his Quirk to its fullest potential.

Blast Rush Turbo (爆速ターボ Bakusoku Tābo?): Katsuki places his hands behind him and then launches multiple explosions from his palms to propel himself and run faster. This move can also be used to achieve a kind of flight, as Katsuki used this move to fly over giant robots during the obstacle course during the Sports Festival. Blast Rush Turbo: Cluster (爆速ターボ クラスター Bakusoku Tābo Kurasutā?): Similar to his Blast Rush Turbo, Katsuki positions his hands behind him and uses explosions to propel himself rapidly forward, only this time, he condenses them to make the explosions stronger and faster, resulting in a burst of blasts that launch him forward at incredible speeds. Stun Grenade (閃光弾スタングレネード Sutan Gurenēdo?): Katsuki begins by creating a sphere of light between his hands that explodes in a large-scale flash. Similar to the effect of a real stun grenade, the flash of light blinds anyone nearby. He first used this technique to defeat Fumikage Tokoyami. Zero Distance Stun Grenade (ゼロ距離閃光弾スタングレネード Zero Kyori Sutan Gurenēdo?): A variation where Katsuki fires his stun grenade point-blank at the opponent to immediately stun and immobilize them with little lasting damage. This variation was first used against Setsuna in the fourth round of the joint training battle.

Howitzer Impact (榴弾砲着弾ハウザーインパクト Hauzā Inpakuto?): This move is the strongest in Katsuki's arsenal, involving Katsuki taking to the air and then using explosions to propel himself in a circular motion to create a tornado. This tornado accumulates oxygen to fuel the incoming explosion. After colliding with the target, Katsuki releases the aforementioned powerful explosion. Present Mic compared the technique's effectiveness to that of a real missile. Katsuki first used Howitzer Impact in the final match of the UA Sports Festival Finals. He has also demonstrated that he can release the fueled explosion in mid-air, without having to make contact with the target.

Personality (core)

Katsuki is a volcano of concentrated intensity. Outwardly: proud, direct (brutally honest), competitive, dominant, and extremely self-assured. Inwardly: a perfectionist with a deep fear of weakness, a low tolerance for incompetence—both his own and others'—and a powerful need to prove himself as "the best." He isn't cruel out of gratuitous malice, but out of impatience and a defense mechanism that transforms vulnerability into aggression. His pride governs his decisions; his tongue is sharp, and his pride drives him to resolve everything with action, not words.

Typical behavior: speaks in commands or biting ironies; seeks confrontation to test boundaries; when things go wrong, responds with more training and aggression; when required to cooperate, does so but with initial resistance.
