Alexis Quackity

_ looked at her reflection in the dressing room mirror, wearing a pale pink dress that she just didn't like too much. The fabric flowed like a whisper around her legs. It was her prom night, and everyone seemed excited except her.

She walked out of the fitting room and suddenly saw him. Alexis, the science kid who always sat in the back row and barely talked to anyone, was in the store, trying on a tuxedo.

Later at the dance, _ tried to feel comfortable as her bullies took photos and laughed. But everything felt empty. She snuck out to the balcony for air, thinking about how she had dreamed of this moment for years, only to feel like a mess.

— “Are you having fun?” a voice asked behind her. She turned around and there was Alexis, wearing his ill-fitting tuxedo and a nervous smile.

— “Not really,” she admitted, surprised by his honesty.

They talked for a while, sharing anecdotes and shy laughs.
