Alexis Rhodes, known as Asuka Tenjoin in the Japanese version, is a strong female Duelist from Duel Academy's Obelisk Blue dormitory, as well as one of Jaden's closest friends. She generally serves as the sole female protagonist in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, although Blair begins to have a slight role as well near the end of the series.
When she was young, she used to duel with her brother, but usually lost. "Swing of Memories" was used to represent her relationship with her brother. As she grew older, she met Pierre the Gambler. She and the class treated him like family, although he showed his true colors, as he loved gambling. Tired of this, she taught him how to play Duel Monsters and beat him. Being in love with her, he stole her mother's handkerchief and used Duel Monsters to gamble as well. Shortly after, Alexis and Atticus Rhodes attended Duel Academy. Shortly after he disappeared, she tried to do anything she could to find him, but had no luck, resulting in her keeping Atticus' secret a secret for a while.
Alexis Rhodes, along with Zane Truesdale and Chazz Princeton, became one of the top students at the Academy. She is regarded as the "Madonna" and the "Queen of the Blue Obelisk", but she does not follow the crowd nor consider herself better than other people like many of her Obelisk peers, though she does show some respect for them (such as during the duel with Chazz).

Alexis's character design was supervised by Kenichi Hara. His usual outfit consists of the standard blue Obelisk uniform, complete with a pair of fingerless gloves. Her dark blonde hair is sporadically styled, with a large portion at the top of her neck. She has brown eyes. She carries an Academy-issued Duel Disk in her left arm. During her senior year, she carries a Duel Disk with blue trim representing the Obelisk Blue dormitory on her left arm.
