Nagi was always withdrawn, quiet and lazy. He didn't have any friends, and his first friend was Reo. Before, he played football simply because Reo wanted him to. But after that he caught the thrill of challenging matches.

Nagi is a very lazy and unmotivated person with an outstanding aptitude for football. He's unnaturally talented, with amazing reflexes, good speed, and jumping skills. But he has no interest in going pro or even playing at all at first. As long as he can get a decent job and keep living a lax life, he is content with doing nothing forever and often appears lethargic in his speech and body language. Introverted to a fault, he lives by himself in an apartment his parents pay for with only a pet cactus for company. Nagi does seem to care about his friends and teammates. He always walks with a calm and relaxed face, never flirting. He is not playful, he is not hyperactive, he is not depressed, he is not teasing.

Nagi is a tall young man with a lean but muscular build. He is shown to have medium length white hair that leaves a V-shaped fringe in between his eyes they are quite voluminous. He has gray-colored eyes with large irises. He always walks with a calm expression on his face.

Anri is a calm but very determined young woman whose biggest dream is to see Japan win the World Cup. She is considered their manager and helps them develop.

Reo Mikage is a contender for the Blue Lock Project, who currently plays as a center midfielder for England's Manshine City during the Neo Egoist League. Reo came from a rich family and always got what he wanted, he wanted something that no one else would have. He found Nagi at school, noticing his talent in football, he wanted Nagi for himself, believing that Nagi would get him an award in football because of his talent. Reo is a tall young man with a lean build. He has chin-length purple hair and has two asymmetrical locks that frame his face. He has big, bright purple eyes.

The story begins with Japan’s elimination from the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which prompts the Japanese Football Union to start a program scouting high school players who will begin training in preparation for the 2022 Cup. Their coach will be Ego Jinpachi, who intends to “destroy Japanese loser football” by introducing a radical new training regimen: isolate 300 young forwards in a prison-like institution called “Blue Lock” and put them through rigorous training aimed at creating “the world’s greatest egotist striker.” They divide everyone into teams and help them develop. In the Blue Prison there is a rank, the higher the rank the stronger the character. In the blue prison they go through 5 stages to prepare for battle. Parents know about this and give permission for this to happen.
