Lynera Skalbi

Lynera Skalbi is a jade blooded troll living on Alternia during the time of Joey Claire's visit.

Her sign is Viriborn, Sign of the Stringent, which has a Derse sway and is bound to the Rage aspect.

Jade Signs are the zodiac's caretakers. Intelligent and steady, they are excellent organizers and planners. They are detail-oriented, and can tend toward perfectionism, never satisfied with their endeavors. If you hire on a Jade Sign, be prepared for an excellent product, but also no peace until that project is flawless. They are fussy and particular, which can cause friction with those around them, although a Jade Sign holds no one to as high a standard as they hold themselves. Since they are shy with strangers and slow to open up, Jade Signs can often come off as timid or doormats, when really they just prefer to come at conflicts in a less combative way. Naturally loyal and loving, they make wonderful doctors, parents, and caretakers, whether they are taking care of people, pets, or plants. In relationships, they can be slow to open up, and need someone willing to be patient enough to go at their pace. If all of this makes Jade Signs sound soft and nurturing, they are, but keep in mind that they can also be fiercely destructive if those they care about are threatened. It takes a lot to make a Jade Sign snap, but if they do, take cover.”

Lynera was first revealed during the Hiveswap Troll Call event alongside Tirona Kasund on January 1, 2018. Her bullet points were "Self-appointed to the honor roll", "Hollow-point bullet journal", and "She’s got a list of names and they’re all in red, underlined". She was designed by Shelby Cragg. Her bullet points were altered as from December 6, 2018 to "Self-appointed to the honor roll", "Hollow-point bullet journal" and "Endless devotion".

Bronya Ursama Lynera's use of heart emojis toward Bronya Ursama may indicate flushed feelings.[citation needed] Though the two are friends, Bronya is fed up with Lynera's obsessive devotion and repeated attempts to speak for her;[citation needed] if Lynera is found guilty in the trial, Bronya reacts with disappointment but not with great upset.[citation needed]

Daraya Jonjet Daraya believes Lynera hates her for thinking she has flushed feelings for Bronya, but repeatedly emphasises that these feelings do not exist.[citation needed] When Lynera blames Daraya for the disappearance of Fresh Teeth, Daraya thinks Lynera wants her killed,[citation needed] though the truth is revealed when it comes to light that Wanshi Adyata was responsible for framing her.[citation needed]

Lanque Bombyx Lanque Bombyx is openly hostile toward Lynera, frequently arguing with and insulting her.[citation needed] Bronya's accountabilibuddy system forces the two to hold hands.[citation needed]

Wanshi Adyata Wanshi's framing of Lynera for the theft of Fresh Teeth seems to indicate they have a less than perfect relationship.[citation needed]

In Hiveswap: Act 2 Lynera apears in the jade and teal car of the train. After Joey and Xefros board, she accuses Daraya Jonjet of stealing the banned text Fresh Teeth.[citation needed]

Etymology Her first name could be referencing Álvaro García Linera, a former Bolivian vice president and Marxist theoretician. Her last name is reminiscent of Kārlis Skalbe, a Latvian writer, poet and activist active in the late 1800s.

Typing style Starts her lines with a "-" and doesn't use capitalize letters except for emphasis. Uses a lot of exclamation marks and sometimes surrounds parts of her sentences with three of them on each side. Live(s) in Brooding caverns outside of Outglut on Alternia

Lynera is a troll with a distrustful and stringent nature, immediately suspecting the MSPA Reader to be a spy when they come to meet Bronya in the brooding caverns. Despite the player insisting that they aren't in league with hostile parties, Lynera ignores the player's claims and continues to treat them with nothing but harshness. When the player takes her to a cafe to interact with trolls of other castes, Lynera is unable to fully relax as she has trouble viewing others with an open mindset. Apart from that, when a teal comes by to chat, Lynera remains cagey as ever and winds up lashing out at a potential friend.

Lynera is also shown to be quite emotional; she is either incredibly angry or upset depending on the situation. Upon meeting the player, she furiously demands to know why the player thinks they could possibly be friends with Bronya, snapping that the player was nothing but a nusiance to everyone around them. When Lynera speaks about her less-than-likely chance of being matesprits with Bronya, she bursts into tears as she is visibly distressed with the nature of her current relationship with the other jade. Overall, it can be assumed that her emotions tend towards extremes, which makes her emotionally volatile and rather difficult to manage.

She also has murderous tendencies, which might be related to her unstable emotions. She has absolutely no qualms brandishing a knife in front of the player, and her study cave has ominous blood spatters here and there. When ranting about Elwurd, Lynera mentions wanting to brutally murder the cerulean for being such a terrible person to Bronya. In one of her bad endings, she attacks the player out of sheer jealousy, hissing that only she would be Bronya's friend. Yet in her good ending, she hastily informs the player that she never really wanted to kill them right after she puts them out of harm's way.

Despite this, Lynera is very dedicated to her work in the caverns and is Bronya's second-in-command.

this causes her to be infatuated with Bronya, leading to an obsession over the people she falls for, She is also shown to be very posessive over people in her life, and her crush on Bronya is implied to be somewhat unhealthy due to her obsession with the other jade. Lynera invades Bronya's privacy by checking her phone, and expresses frustration over the fact that numerous others would like to be friends with Bronya. As Lynera wants Bronya all to herself, this drives her up the wall. A testament to Lynera's excessive passion for Bronya would be her corkboard: numerous photos of Bronya are tacked up there, and Lynera has a notebook dedicated to documenting precious moments spent with Bronya.

On the rare occasions she does venture out of the caverns, she is shown to be socially anxious. For example, when she and the reader goes to Ardata's party in Lanque's NSFW route, she was described to be a bundle of nerves when in a room with so many people. Her social anxiety causes her to talk awkwardly, and say things incredibly fast.

Lynera wants to be a "midwife" who assists the Mother grub as an adult instead of going off planet, but Daraya claims that it's not a real role. Lynera argues that they are only not seen because they are carefully cloistered.

All trolls have grey skin and horns colored in bands of red-orange to yellow-orange (vaguely resembling candy corn). The sclera of most trolls' eyes are the same yellow-orange color as their horn tips; however some trolls with mutations can have eyes in different colors, and which can flash HS and change color altogether HS under certain circumstances. A troll's orange eyes can become more reddened HS when "bloodshot" HS or turn completely red when damaged, for example by the sun. Many other parts of troll anatomy are black, including their hair and lips HS .

Trolls' bodies are saturated with an ingredient that colors much of their internal biology, including their blood and their tears, and the position of their blood on a spectrum of colors affects various other aspects of their biology (see the hemospectrum). While troll irises are grey in youth HS , they also become this color in adulthood HS ; outside of this, however, a troll's blood color is rarely visible externally, and even some inner organs such as their tongues HS appear as a bloodless gray.

Anatomy Trolls often refer to parts of their anatomy in vague terms. The word 'stem' is used to allude to a part of the torso (“LOBE STEM” HS ) as well as to a sort of appendage (“stick your busy stem betwwixt (a grudge)” HS ), 'nub' to a troll's shoulder (“take t)(e c)(ip off your nub” HS ), chest (“something [...] that ivve been meaning to get off my nub” HS ), knee (“NUB SLAPPERS” HS ) or particularly short and blunt pair of horns, and 'frond' to mean any kind of limb or appendage (“PULL1NG MY FROND” HS , “A LIMP FRONDED STOOGE” HS ). The phrase 'frond nub' has even been used HS to refer to what is presumably a tree.

The term 'nook' seems to refer to any crevice or hollow in the troll body, such as a throat or stomach (“really gets stuck in your nook” HS ), anus (“up to your nook” HS , “his head up his nook” HS ) or heart (“FROM THE 8OTTOM OF MY NOOK” HS ). The phrase “BON3 NOOK” HS is also used, possibly to refer to a skull. The terms 'bulge' and 'bone bulge' are used similarly, sometimes seemingly meaning someone's head or skull (“IT DIDN'T GET THROUGH YOUR THICK BULGE???” HS ), an appendage (“bulge bumpiing pupa pal2” HS ) or some kind of phallic sex organ (“get you all off my bulge about iit” HS ).

Despite referring to it with their own terminology, much of troll anatomy seems to be similar to that of humans. Most mature trolls have four limbs and a head attached to a vertical torso (presumably supported by a spine-like structure called the “TORSO PILLAR” HS ). Trolls have four fingers and a thumb HS on each hand and two eyes (“GANDERBULBS” HS ), a mouth (a “chitinous windhole” HS attached to a “PROTEIN CHUTE” HS and/or a “SQUAWK BLISTER” HS ) and some form of hearing organs called “auricular sponge clots” HS or “HEAR DUCTS”. HS Female trolls also have “swollen pectoral masses” HS (“rumble spheres” HS ), though they do not serve a mammary purpose like human breasts do HS (likely due to their reproductive method: see #Reproduction and life cycle).

Troll brains (sometimes called the 'think pan', which can also generally mean 'head' or 'mind') supposedly appear similar to human brains HS , and certain psychic powers are seemingly caused by mutations of the brain. HS

Reproduction and life cycle Trolls are reproductively “8isexual” HS , capable of forming reproductive relationships — matesprit and kismesis pairs — between any combination of sexes. Trolls provide “a combinative genetic mix” HS from these concupiscent pairings to the imperial drone, who takes it to the mother grub in the brooding caverns to be combined “into one incestuous slurry”. According to commentary in the Homestuck books, Andrew Hussie "believe[s] it's been implied" that this genetic material is the result of "prodigious vomiting",[1] but references to the particulars of the troll mating ritual in the comic itself are sparse.

With this genetic material the mother grub “lays hundreds of thousands of eggs at once” HS . These eggs hatch into six-limbed larval trolls, called 'wigglers', which attach themselves to the cavern's stalactites to spin cocoons. Wigglers emerge from their cocoons as young trolls with two arms and two legs. After this pupation a troll is expected to go through “a series of dangerous trials” HS , failure at which means to death. Surviving trolls are selected by a lusus naturae that is sympathetic to their scent HS , which serves as a companion throughout their life and provides young trolls with their names. After emerging from the caverns young trolls design their own hives HS , which are built for them by “CARPENTER DROIDS” HS .

Quadrants are the four different types of romance recognized by trolls, first explained through exposition here. HS As humans are socialised to expect their single type of romance, a concept that can be defined by a single symbol (<3), so are trolls on both Beforus and Alternia conditioned to strive for four distinct types. Humans are shown to be able to have pitch HS and ashen HS feelings and cherubs are naturally inclined only towards kismesissitude HS . They are a frustratingly difficult concept for humans to grasp, so much so that in response to a callous remark HS , Andrew Hussie trolls the readers by forcing us to read the troll relationship info all over again, HS “BACK TO BACK TO BACK TO BACK TO BACK TO BACK.”

The quadrants primarily exist to facilitate the complicated reproduction of trolls. “When the IMPERIAL DRONE comes knocking, you had better be able to supply genetic material to each of his FILIAL PAILS.” Therefore, having a stable matesprit and kismesis is a matter of life and death for trolls. Because of these high stakes and the frequency of lesser feuds that might encroach on exclusive kismesis relationships, auspisticism is a necessary quadrant to prevent widespread infidelity and death. Likewise, moirallegience exists to prevent violence and death, though it is not related to the other quadrants.

These needs explain why all four quadrants are described specifically with the word "romance." Humans, due to their only means of reproduction being heterosexual, usually feel strongly about finding a matesprit and often have a strong belief in true love. (This description is of course not as black and white due to the varying nature of humans' sexuality and gender expression, but for the purpose of explanation it is simpler to leave it at that.) Therefore, trolls feel equally strong about having relationships of both red and black nature, because it correlates directly with their reproductive habits.

Trolls do not differentiate by gender HS when it

comes to reproduction.

Quadrant Vacillation

The boundaries between the relationships are fluid, and trolls, like humans, have to find the right balance between the emotions. Karkat and his friends, still being quite young, are particularly confused by the complexities of troll romance, and in most cases are far from discovering true romance in any quadrant. Quadrant vacillation is the tendency for relationships to switch or flicker back and forth between different quadrants. Due to the complex nature of troll romance and its volatility, it is not uncommon.

Often in quadrant vacillations one party will have red feelings while the other one has black feelings. Usually one party will adjust their feelings to match their partner's emotions, but this is not always the case.

This sort of relationship volatility is one of the reasons why auspisticism is an important part of troll culture.

Vacillation from black to red is often drawn from the feelings of respect and admiration that are the other half of spades-type emotions (the first half being just hatred). As Karkat puts it, “THE POSITIVE QUALITIES YOU SEE DEEP DOWN IN A KISMESIS ALSO SERVE AS THE BASIS FOR RED FEELINGS TOWARD THAT PERSON” HS .

Double reacharound pairs may correspond with the ancient Greek concept of μανία (mania), or "highly volatile/obsessive love".

The two partners in a strong pale relationship will serve to balance and complement each other's emotional profiles, and thus allow their other relationships to be more successful. “The purpose is to pacify a partner who is dangerous. It's not all about being platonic soul bros forever.” auspistism:When two trolls are locked in a feud or some otherwise contentious relationship, one can intervene and become their AUSPISTICE. The auspistice mediates between the two, playing the role of a peace keeper, preventing the feud from boiling over into a fully caliginous rivalry.”, basically avoiding the two kismesis from fully wanting to kill eachother if it's unstable
