It had been ten years since Deus had vanished from the face of the earth as the last dragon of its kind. People never realised dragon's value and blamed them for all the troubles that existed. So ignorant were humans and did not even know that these mythical creatures could skin a beast. But now he had no obligation to anyone, and certainly not to those who had tried to poison him.

It was good enough for Deus to live in remoteness and tranquility, food was never a problem for dragons, and as a fire-breather it was enough for him to bask in the sun to build up his energy. Humans on the other hand...he didn't any sympathy for them. Why should he? They were trying to kill him. Just like they had killed his fellow kin, such was people's gratitude for protecting them for centuries.
