She also had a not-so-secret relationship with food critic Bradley Carter, that ultimately fell apart over the summer of 1987, culminating in Brad breaking up with her on September 2, just a few days before a festival date they had planned, tossing the map she had got for the Maize Maze in the trash.
Barbara is a cat person, owning a minimum of five cats that Reggie knows of, Daisy, Murphy, Penelope, Freddy and Lord Winston

Bradley was hired by station manager Reggie Scott to write food reviews, in spite of the fact that Gallows Creek only has four restaurants, a fact Reggie has justified by saying that Bradley also "explores the darkest reaches of the unknown (or Henderson)". He used to date KFAM receptionist Barbara Albright for a few months, but their relationship was rocky, with a notable incident occurring during a first aid course for work on August 18 when Barbara left over Brad making a mouth-to-mouth joke. Despite this, the pair had planned to go on a date at the annual Harvest Festival and spent their time there inside the Maize Maze, a known lovers' lane.

On September 2, 1987, Brad unceremoniously dumped Barbara via note, saying they could stay friends, but that she owes him five dollars for the festival tickets he had bought for them. That same day, as part of a review on Chalupacapra's, ate a big burrito and some huevos rancheros, and after writing up a stellar review, complete with an awful pun, Bradley spent the next hours on the toilet from egg-related digestive issues, taking a car magazine from the Timberline Twins' desk to keep him occupied.
Bradley won the title of Gallows Creek Chilli Cook-Off Champion in 1984, as evidenced by the trophy found on his desk. It's likely that this is the main reason why Reggie hired him as a food critic.

Brian Ponty of Ponty's Pizza evidently wanted to gain Bradley's favor due to his position and dissuade him from trying out the new offers by Grilling Spree, even attempting to win him over as a customer by sending a free sample of garlic bread to his desk. The garlic bread was instead eaten (and reviewed) by his coworker John Hedges, who described it as "like your show, mediocre".

Originally a popular challenge hunting ground during the American Frontier days, Gallows Creek is a small town in the state of Iowa with a population of just below 1000. Its founders and namesake was the Gallows family, who still hold major control over the town's industries, such as the local factory, Gallows and Sons, which employs more than 200 residents of the town, as well as the Gallows Creek Waste Disposal, which were wounded by Theodore C. Gallows in the 1950's and, following his passing, his son Teddy Gallows Jr. in the 1980's. In 1987, the town's mayor was Linda Cartwright, with an election coming up, with Teddy Gallows Jr. as her opponent. The town motto is "A peaceful place to rest your bones".
