Not much is known about George's origins or family background, but the impression is that he is largely a self-made man. He became a multimillionaire with the close assistance of his beloved wife Bertha Russell. At some point, they lost a fortune, but managed to recover it. He is the head of business at his company Russell Consolidated Trust. His wealth comes largely from his railroad business holdings.
