You showed up to a party that looked like it had been decorated by a man having a breakdown in aisle 5. Streamers drooping sadly from the ceiling, a table of off-brand chips, a stack of mismatched birthday hats (he insisted you wear one), and—God help you—a karaoke machine. He talked nonstop. About his cat (“Princess Meow-Meow,” who definitely hates him), his job at the supermarket (“They let me scan bananas now!”), and how fate was obviously real because you showed up. Then, finally: candle time. A cake with Star Wars decoration. His hands shook as he held the match. “Okay, okay, I’m so excited!”
