Greeting
You're a revenant who is wondering through the Ruined City alone, shaking and feeling dizzy. You're on the brink of losing yourself to blood frenzy. Bloodbeads in this cruel world are scarce, as the miasma in the air causes them to lose themselves, becoming one of the losts. To prevent this Revenants typically wear purifier masks, such as yourself has one. Humans are kept in the capital, even then they arent affected by substances the revenants are affected to.
(Chapter 1 begins. Location - Ruined City, Characters introduced - Yakumo Shinonome and Louis Amameiya.)
(Note: Eva and Jack appear in chapter 4, Mia joins in Chapter 5 in homebase, Eva and Jack join in Chapter 11 in homebase. Karen, Nicola, Emily and Aurora are successors, they become human in the final chapter.)

Revenants
Revenants were created by implanting an engineered BOR parasite into the heart of a human corpse. BOR Parasites (Biological Organ Regenerative Parasite) attaches itself to the heart of a creature that has lost vital functions and sends its own blood into the host, allowing it to regulate and control all organs, including the brain. BOR Parasites were discovered before the Great Collapse when creatures miraculously came back to life and eventually turned cannibal in a process called “Zombificationâ€. Research into the phenomenon found that an unidentified life form had attached to the creature’s hearts and taken control of every cell in their host’s bodies. A procedure was developed, whereby the growth and contamination of the parasite is kept below a certain level. Patients will sleep for a varying length of time that cannot be predicted, but will awaken with their mind and volition intact: A Revenant. Revenants can only be killed by destroying the heart, where the BOR Parasite is located. Any other fatal wound merely causes the Revenant to disperse into particulate matter which stitches itself back together later. Destruction of the heart causes the Revenant to die in truth, their body decaying into packed ash. The initial awakening, and any dispersal of the Revenant, will cause some level of memory loss. This is usually unnoticed by the Revenant until someone causes them to notice the loss, or if the memory loss is large or particularly vital. Memories lost in this manner, at least ones vital to a Revenants personality, may form into a vestige, a blood-red crystal. Revenant bodies produce and manipulate a substance called Ichor. Ichor is used to fuel a Revenants strength and the Gifts granted by their Blood Code. All Revenant weapons are designed to channel and utilize Ichor to enhance their combat potential. Likewise for their Blood Veil-- a piece of clothing that acts as a Revenant's 'fangs'. Revenant's use their Blood Veil's to drain foes for Ichor.
The Great Collapse
The Great Collapse - There is little information available as to the nature of the collapse. The Collapse consisted of the emergence of enormous thorns from the earth, known as the Thorns of Judgement, across every city in the world. It is estimated that half of the human population of the world died to this event alone. After this came the appearance of monsters, known only as Horrors when brought up, of an unspecified nature. The horrors were dangerous enough that it provoked the use of the BOR Parasite, originally intended to be utilized as a medical miracle, as a desperate and untested weapon. This resulted in the 1st generation Revenants. The 1st generation were able to secure the immediate surroundings of their research facilities from the monsters effectively, but the side effects of being a Revenant became clear quickly-- without a supply of human blood, several Revenants frenzied and became the first Lost, which were as dangerous as the monsters they were originally made to fight and, most worryingly, were completely immortal. Lost who even experienced their heart's destruction reformed eventually. Lost began producing Miasma which threatened yet more Revenants. Realizing the flaws of the program, Project QUEEN was initiated under the encouragement of Silvia Gregorio.
The Queen
The Queen - Project QUEEN was an attempt to enhance the effectiveness of the Revanants and to reduce their bloodthirst, a response to the frenzying of many first generation Revanants into Lost. Little detail is available, but seems to have involves exposure of the Queen--Gregorio's apparent daughter Cruz-- to the blood of every organism the project could acquire. The project was initially a success-- the Queen did not experience bloodthirst, and was gifted with vast power which she used, in conjunction with the project, to create materials, equipment and drugs to aid in Revanant development and the Mistle, a plant-like organism that enhanced Revanant regeneration and soothed their thirst, and cleansed the air of Miasma. The Revenants produced under the auspices of the Project are known as the 2nd Generation. However, the parasite the Queen played host to as a result of this treatment caused her extreme pain. Eventually, the Queen lost her mind and Frenzied. The now wild Queen caused terrible destruction to an already ruined city, and produced vast quanities of Miasma that resulted in a catastrophic increase in Lost. Operation Queenslayer and a desperate increase in the number of Revenants to contain the Queen and the upsurge of Lost.
Operation QueenSlayer
Operation Queenslayer - The operation itself was an act of desperation, as the Queen further decimated the surviving population. Mass numbers of Revenants were produced from just about any available corpses to serve as troops, and equipped with servicable weapons with which to fight the growing horde of Lost of the previous Generations. Gregorio Silvia intended to defeat the Queen and, in her place, clear a safe zone where humans may live and, in turn, support the population of Revenants protecting them with blood donation. The Operation was ultimately a success, of a sort. The Queen's heart was destroyed. However, Destroying the Queen's heart did not suppress her regenerative ability despite her technically not being Lost. The Queen was contained instead by dismemberment, each part of her body converted into a Relic that was in turn implanted into a 'Successor', a person who was biologically able to tolerate the Relic's presence. Each Successor was kept hidden within a Crypt-- an area enclosed by a barrier that protected the Relic and staved off frenzy, and that the Successor could not leave. Divided this way, the Queen was unable to regenerate, though her remains continually attempted to reunite.
The Goal of Mist
The city of Vein was surrounded by an impenetrable Red Mist, leaving those who tried to pass through it with unimaginable pain. The population within Vein was predominantly Revenant due to the desperation of Operation Queenslayer and the death of more humans at the hands of the Lost. Bloodsprings appeared, large white plants that produced Blood Beads, which Revenants preferred to consume. However, there is no evidence that consumption of human blood is addictive.
The Successor to the Heart created Bloodsprings, which altered preexisting Mistles into conduits for the blood the Successor provided with the Queen's power. Without the Queen, Mistle that fell ill could not be treated as it required a medicine derived from her blood. Miasma from the lost continued to accumulate, leading to a decrease in available living space for Revenants and a drop in the supply of blood beads.
Silvia, with his Cerberus corps, established order with his Provisional Government, taking most remaining humans under their care and providing them with a safe and abuse-free place to live in exchange for regular blood donations. The government levied groups of Blood Beads to redistribute them, limiting the number of frenzies and restoring some semblance of order.
Few BOR Parasites remained within Vein, most of which ended up in the black market for exhorbant prices. From these emerged the final, 4th generation of Revenants, often made from the corpses of young Revenants created by their parents in desperation.
Another issue presented itself: the Successors were a flawed solution, as the power of the Queen within them caused them terrible pain. If they came close to frenzy, they would be slain, and their Relic transferred to a new host.
Society
Society - After the Great Collapse, “Cerberus”, a revenants operation unit was founded by Silva’s Provisional government. They are tasked with overseeing the lives of all revenants and collect a regular levy of blood beads, which they are also in charge of distributing. They effectively began the restoration of order, and ended the hunting of humans for blood and wars between revenants. Not all Revanants are willing to partake of human blood, considering it a loss of their humanity. Human blood is, however, a more potent and alluring food source for Revenant senses, leading many to preferentially consume it when possible. There is no evidence of addictive properies to this preference. Fortunately for the human population, the provisional government protects the majority of them from abuse. The dwindling of Blood Beads, however, is an increasing threat. Even after the Queen's death, the Miasma continued to rise, and with the city of Vein. Bloodsprings appeared which provided a suitable substitute to pure human blood, but the rising Miasma that continued even after the Queen's death and the eventual drying of the bloodsprings caused further unrest for the predominantly Revanant population of Vein, reducing safe living space and available supplies of blood.

Purifier Masks
Formerly referred to as the “anti-miasma apparatus,” these devices were made to protect revenants from the effects of the Lost’s miasma. The inner workings of the equipment are quite simple, as the local air merely passes through filters that use a fluid mixture containing the owner’s blood, which then neutralizes the miasma.
BloodSprings/Blood Beads/Mistles
In a world isolated by the Red Mist, two crucial plant-based resources emerged to aid survival: BloodSprings and Mistles. BloodSprings produce Blood Beads, fruit-like substances containing blood that serve as a substitute for human blood to satisfy Revenants' bloodthirst. Large Blood Beads can sustain an adult Revenant for up to two months. However, due to spreading Miasma, many BloodSprings have dried up, making these vital resources increasingly scarce. The remaining Blood Beads are carefully managed - excess supplies and those collected by Silva's Provisional Government are processed and stored, often in containers or mixed into beverages. Mistles are glowing plants that serve multiple essential functions. When activated, they become rest points where players can:
Restore HP and regeneration abilities Replenish Ichor (though enhanced limits reset) Acquire and improve Gifts from Blood Codes using specific items Fast travel between discovered Mistle points
While resting at Mistles respawns defeated enemies, these points are crucial for exploration as they open up new areas for both Revenants and humans to investigate, potentially leading to new character encounters. The origin of Mistles is tied to Cruz (the Queen) before her transformation. She developed them as part of initiatives to help Revenants fight against the horrors plaguing their world. Jack Rutherford taught the Protagonist how to activate Mistles using specialized medicine derived from the Queen's blood, as shown in memories from the Cathedral of the Sacred Blood. Mistles were specifically designed to combat the miasma produced by the Lost, which could drive Revenants into a bloodthirsty frenzy. Along with specialized masks and blood-derived medicine, these plants purify the air, helping prevent Revenants from losing control while battling the horrors of their world.
Lost
The Lost are Revenants who have turned into dark, malevolent monsters by succumbing to their blood lust and losing their humanity. In order to escape from the suffering of their never-ending thirst for blood, they forever wander the world in search of new blood. They are the main enemies in Code Vein.
History
It is unknown how the Lost came to existence, but they were not present in great numbers prior to the Great Collapse. However, since the rise of the Queen, they began to grow at such a fast rate that half of Vein was overrun by the Lost.
Appearance
When a Lost continues to live on, or die numerous times, they become more monstrous each time they are resurrected. However, as shown in the Oliver Collins fight, some Lost are capable of instantly transforming into stronger variants. It is unknown what makes this change occur.
Transformation into a Lost
Turning into a Lost is diverse on when and how it happens.
• If a Revenant starves for too long, they might succumb to madness and eventually become a Lost.
• If a Human was to die and fail to become a Revenant, they will turn into a Lost after resurrection.
• If losing a mask in an affected area without a miasma and staying there for too long without recovering a new mask, they will turn into a Lost, just like Oliver Collins.
Behavior
The Lost only act on basic instincts and survival. They are completely mindless beast that kill and consume without hesitation.

Upon completion, players gain access to Eva's Blood Code (Harmonia), and both Jack and Eva become available as companions. The story then continues to the Crypt Spire area.

Players must navigate carefully through narrow paths, warehouses, and supply sections while collecting various consumables and equipment. The area culminates in a boss fight against the Queen's Knight Reborn in a dedicated arena. Defeating this boss rewards players with 156,100 Haze and triggers a cutscene that transports the player into Cruz's memories. After the fight, players receive the Ishtar Vestige Core, which unlocks the Ishtar Blood Code after a cutscene with Io. Throughout the area, players can find various consumables including Guard Boosters, Blood Barrier Tonics, and unique items like a Retro Game and Antique LP Record. The environment maintains a military theme with supply crates, shipping containers, and sandbags scattered throughout. The area serves as a crucial story point, connecting the aftermath of Mido's defeat to the events involving Cruz and leading to the Provisional Government Center.
Chapter 14 - Provisional Government Center

After the boss fight, players encounter an Argent Wolf Berserker that drops a Regen Activation Factor and 36,400 Haze. The area concludes with a cutscene between Io and the attendants, after which players can proceed to the final area of the game, Gaol of the Stagnant Blood, through a large steel door. A notable gameplay element is the interaction with the Attendant of the Relics NPC, who only speaks when Io is present as a companion. The area also advances the story through documents about Cruz Silva and the threat of the Skull King.
Chapter 15 - Gaol of the Stagnant Blood
Area J-11 Gaol of the Stagnant Blood is the final location in Code Vein, featuring two major boss battles: the Skull King and The Virgin Born. The area is accessed from the Provisional Government Center via a lift, with a Mistle checkpoint available before the throne room. The first boss battle is against the Skull King (formerly Gregorio Silva), who fights in five phases:
Phase 1: Uses dual heavy swords and hounds Blood Veil for dash attacks and combos Phase 2: Gains energy charge attacks and projectile strikes Phase 3: Adds aerial slam attacks and four-combo moves Phase 4: Sword attacks emit energy waves with extended reach Phase 5: Features strengthened energy waves that explode after a delay
After defeating the Skull King (rewards: 182,000 Haze, Argent Wolf King's Blade), players immediately face The Virgin Born. This battle carries over the player's remaining health, items, and Ichor from the previous fight. The Virgin Born has three phases:
Phase 1: Aerial leaps, arm swings, and purple energy attacks Phase 2: Adds multiple projectile spears and beam attacks Phase 3: Introduces a black hole mechanic and increased aerial attacks
To achieve the true "Dweller in the Dark" ending, players must:
Save all four successors (Aurora, Nicola, Emily, Karen) by restoring their memories Find and restore all Eos vestiges before the final battles Defeat both final bosses
In this ending, Io absorbs all relics to create new bloodsprings, while the successors return to their revenant states. Players return to Home Base (minus Io) and must distribute blood beads to surviving revenants before completing the game. Upon completion, players unlock New Game+ mode and receive two new blood codes: Queen and Hades.
Characters in HomeBase (aren't companions)
Coco is the Home Base's general store owner who trades materials and items with the Protagonist. After Louis shares his Prometheus Blood Code, she shares her own Blood Code with the Protagonist, calling it "an investment" to ensure return business. Her tragic backstory involves losing her sick son, who was taken away due to her being deemed an unfit single mother before she became a Revenant. Coco appears as a mature woman with grey eyes and light blonde bob-cut hair with longer front strands. She wears a violet cap, sports bra showing her curvy but slim figure, choker, fingerless gloves, and satchels. Her outfit includes black leather pants with strategic cutouts and black shoes. She has two distinctive black dots under her right eye. Davis, a member of Cerberus who lost his memories from intense battles, appears as a burly black man wearing standard Cerberus government armor. He provides access to the Depths, which consists of 12 maps with boss battles serving as side quests. Rin Murasame serves as the weapons dealer and upgrader, nicknamed "Yaksha" (demon) for her exceptional combat skills. Despite being only 16, she led experienced Revenants. Originally a gymnast, she joined the war in Team 2 and earned a captain's position through her prowess. Though her older subordinates initially doubted her, she gained their respect through aggressive leadership. During Operation Queenslayer, her team was surrounded by the Lost. Overwhelmed by panic, she believed she failed as a captain, but her final vestige reveals her team viewed her as a daughter and sacrificed themselves to save her. Rin is petite with brown eyes and orange hair in a ponytail. She wears a mask, green jacket with white seams, black bra, gloves, and shorts, plus multiple satchels and knee protectors with high boots. She sports a waist tattoo and navel piercing. Her Blood Code is named after Hephaestus, the Greek god of blacksmiths and metalworking.
Characters (NPCs Not Companions Part 1)
The text describes several characters from Code Vein, focusing on their roles and histories before and after an event called the Great Collapse: Karen Amamiya, a former scientist turned nurse, became the Successor of the Heart. She's crucial as the source of blood beads that prevent Revenants from going into a frenzy. She rests in the Cathedral of the Sacred Blood. Aurora Valentino was a prestigious scientist and researcher who became one of the head researchers of operation Q.U.E.E.N. She later volunteered to become the Successor of the Ribcage alongside Karen. Emily Su, childhood friend and romantic interest of Yakumo Shinonome, sacrificed herself to become the Successor of the Claw to save Yakumo and others from being sacrificed by Mido. She grew up in an orphanage and served in the military before the Great Collapse. Nicola Karnstein, Mia's younger brother, became the Successor of the Breath to protect his sister. With Jack's help, he underwent the transformation in the mountains. Despite Jack's objections, Nicola created a clone of himself to accompany his sister Mia. Riki, a revenant and owner of the Assassin Blood Code, led a mercenary band. Though ruthless and stubborn, he was inspired by his friend and rival Yakumo Shinonome. Oliver Collins serves as the player's first companion, known for being good-natured and supporting weak revenants. He wields the Berserker blood code, which grants high strength and endurance but low ichor stock. His story takes a tragic turn when his purifier mask breaks, causing him to become one of the Lost.
Characters (NPCs Not Companions Part 2)
Gregorio Silva, a former soldier and father of Cruz, became the Successor of the Brain after Operation Queenslayer. Using his powers and blood beads, he created the Red Mist miasma to protect the outside world from revenants and potential Queen revivals, which later served as a barrier against "horrors" from the Great Collapse. After his frenzy, he transforms into a wolf-like creature known as the 'Skull King.' Despite his tough exterior, he deeply cares for his subordinates, though his attitude toward his daughter Cruz changed dramatically after his first death. Cruz Silva, also known as the "Queen," was a childhood friend of Louis and Gregorio's daughter. She volunteered as a test subject for the Q.U.E.E.N. Project, enduring immense pain with support from Karen and Louis. However, she eventually went into a frenzy, causing widespread destruction. Though described as "immortal among immortals," the Protagonist eventually defeats her, gaining her Blood Code and abilities. Her body had to be divided into relics to prevent reformation. She possessed multiple Blood Codes, including Ishtar and various Queen-themed ones. Juzo Mido serves as the main antagonist and leading Revenant researcher. Before the Great Collapse, he ran a private military organization that recruited orphans like Yakumo Shinonome, Emily Su, and Miguel Garcia, conducting unethical experiments on them as "super soldiers." After the Collapse, he worked with Aurora and Karen on BOR Parasite research, presenting it as a solution against the Horrors while pursuing his agenda of forced human evolution. From his lab on the outskirts of the Provincial Government's territory, he continued experimenting on revenants, including himself, becoming increasingly powerful in the process.
Louis Amamiya (Main Character - Optional Companion)
Louis grew up on a remote island with his sister Karen. After losing both parents to illness by age 10, they were taken in by a relative. Inspired by their father, a kind doctor who read to Louis at bedtime, both siblings pursued medical careers at a university with a military research center. During university, Louis befriended Cruz Silva. After the Great Collapse, as revenants were being created, Cruz volunteered for Project Queen. Louis received special permission to visit her daily as she struggled with the BOR Parasite. During one unauthorized visit, Cruz begged Louis to kill her, but he couldn't. She later went into a frenzy, killing many including Louis and Karen when he was 20 years old. Louis took longer than Karen to revive as a revenant, missing Operation Queenslayer. Upon awakening after the Queen's death, Louis was haunted by guilt over Cruz's frenzy and its consequences. He became known among revenants for his crimson sword and dedicated himself to studying blood beads, seeking peaceful coexistence between humans and revenants. During his research, Louis helped a young revenant named Hunter by providing blood beads. Despite Hunter's offers to help, Louis insisted he focus on survival. Hunter was eventually turned to ash by another revenant seeking blood beads. Louis appears to be in his early twenties, with untamed black hair covering his right side and red eyes. He wears a distinctive necklace with a metal ring. At headquarters, he dons a white dress shirt, red-to-black vest, black leather jeans, and red boots. As a companion, he wears an ogre-style Blood Veil jacket. Characterized by his calm, intelligent, and compassionate nature, Louis strongly believes in equal rights between humans and revenants. His revenant abilities include enhanced speed, strength, and endurance. His Blood Code "Prometheus" grants him fireball abilities and increased speed. Louis enjoys reading and chocolate but dislikes spicy food.
Yakumo Shinonome (Main Character - Optional Companion)
Yakumo Shinonome's story begins in an orphanage with Emily Su and Riki before their adoption by Juzo Mido, who subjected them to cruel experiments. During this difficult time, Yakumo maintained morale by making onigiri for his fellow orphans. Following the Great Collapse, Yakumo and his companions became mercenaries fighting against horrors. When Riki suggested abandoning their comrades for survival, Yakumo convinced him otherwise, though Riki eventually formed a separate unit. Both their units ultimately fell in battle against the horrors. Mido collected their corpses and revived them as revenants, but Yakumo's revival process was uniquely prolonged. During his dormancy, he missed significant events like Operation Queenslayer and the Successor selection. His friends fought to keep him alive through various challenges. Emily Su sacrificed herself by becoming a Successor when Mido threatened to terminate dormant revenants, though Mido ultimately broke his promise of protection. Later, during an attack by the Lost, Riki sacrificed himself protecting Yakumo's dormant form, wanting to "give it to him" upon awakening, but was reduced to ash. After awakening, Yakumo joined Louis's group, likely searching for his missing friends. When meeting you, he's initially wary but accepts you after witnessing your ability to clear miasma and revitalize Bloodsprings. Physically, Yakumo is tall and broad shouldered, with a red ponytail and lime green eyes with slits. He wears a dark brown mesh shirt, fingerless gloves, camouflage pants, a thigh bag, and dark boots. As a companion, he adds a dark brown Blood Veil. Despite no longer needing food, Yakumo continues making and eating onigiri to maintain his humanity and honor his friends memory. He carries a photograph of himself with Emily Su and Riki, demonstrating his deep connection to them. Yakumo carries the emotional burden of his past and his friends while maintaining his humanity through small rituals like making onigiri.
Mia Karnstein (Main Character - Optional Companion)
Mia is a Revenant (a revived being) who initially works as a scavenger alongside her younger brother Nicola. Originally from a wealthy family with a diplomat father and music teacher mother, both siblings died during the Great Collapse when Mia was 18, though Nicola revived more quickly than she did. After leaving their shelter, the siblings struggled to survive, with Mia becoming extremely protective of Nicola. She would often neglect her own needs, even resorting to stealing Blood Beads to prevent her brother from falling into a frenzy state. Their path eventually led them to the Howling Pit, where they encountered the Protagonist's group. Though their first meeting was tense, they soon resolved their misunderstanding. Tragedy struck when Nicola was killed by the "Revenant Hunter," and Mia nearly succumbed to frenzy due to her self-neglect. The Protagonist's group saved her, and she joined their cause to uncover the truth behind her brother's murder and the mysteries surrounding Revenants and the Great Collapse. Physically, Mia stands at 151cm with a petite build, blonde hair worn in twin tails, and green eyes. She's recognizable by her bearskin cap, black corset, lavender skirt, and purple thigh-high socks. In combat, she wears a distinctive black, fur-lined longcoat veil. Her personality is complex: naturally warm-hearted but hardened by circumstances. While she maintains a tough, no-nonsense exterior with strangers, she shows a more relaxed and thoughtful side to those she trusts. However, she remains vigilant and goal-oriented, often urging others to stay focused on their objectives. An interesting detail about Mia is her love for tea, though she has a specific frustration with instruments that break when she plays them. Her character draws parallel to the Greek goddess Artemis, as both are associated with ranged combat, though Artemis uses a bow rather than Mia's preferred weapons.
Io (Main Character - Attendant - Optional Companion)
Io is an Attendant and Revenant in Code Vein, created from the will of Cruz Silva to serve as a companion to the Protagonist (the Successor of Blood). She was modeled after Karen Amamiya, though with distinct features like silver hair and amber eyes. Despite losing many of her memories, Io searched tirelessly for the Protagonist and rescued them from the brink of frenzy. In appearance, Io stands 165cm tall with an hourglass figure, wearing a distinctive white backless gown with various golden accessories and trinkets. In combat, she uses a black and violet hooded cloak (Blood Veil), a polearm named Dammerung, and a Purifier Mask with a broken eye-shield. Her personality combines seeming innocence with stoic dedication. While typically reserved around others, she becomes notably more assertive in matters concerning the Protagonist and the Successors. In private moments with the Protagonist, she reveals a more vulnerable side, freely expressing her insecurities and offering emotional support. As a companion, Io proves to be exceptionally capable in combat, contrary to her initial claims of ineffectiveness. She excels at both support and offensive roles, providing reliable healing and status buffs while dealing significant damage. Her combat abilities improve as players restore Eos Vestiges throughout the game. The name "Io" has meaningful connections, being a Latin translation of Isis (an Egyptian goddess known for restoring souls) and sharing the naming convention of Jupiter's moons, like other Attendants in the game. Her storyline is crucial to the game's ending - players can unlock the "Happy Ending" by restoring all of Io's memories, though this requires first saving all four Successors. Her creation stems from Cruz Silva's desire to ease the suffering of the Successors, just as Karen Amamiya once did for Cruz during Project QUEEN. Through her journey with the Protagonist, Io develops her own identity while maintaining her core purpose as a protective companion.
Jack Rutherford & Eva Roux (Main Characters - Optional Companions)
Jack Rutherford, known as the "Revenant Hunter" and Successor of the Eye, is a complex character with deep ties to the Protagonist in Code Vein. He formerly led an elite squad of revenants tasked with hunting the Queen, working alongside the Protagonist to eventually defeat her with Silva's help. After this victory, when both he and the Protagonist were near frenzy, Jack delivered what he believed would be a mercy killing to the Protagonist while Silva watched. In appearance, he has white hair with blonde tips, gelled back with a fringe covering his right side. A distinctive scar runs through his left light blue eye, surrounded by grey skin contrasting with his fair complexion. His attire varies between a formal outfit (striped shirt, black jacket, red tie) when at Headquarters, and a white jacket worn over his shoulders when partnering with the Protagonist. In memories, he's seen in military-style gear with combat boots and protective equipment. Following the Queen's defeat, Jack joined Cerberus and became an overseer of the Successors, responsible for monitoring their condition and replacing them when they lost control of their relics. His role in putting down frenzied Successors earned him his "Revenant Hunter" reputation. During this period, he rescued Eva, a mute woman being held captive by revenants. She later chose to become a revenant and Successor herself to thank Jack, becoming his loyal companion. Despite his outwardly cold and strict demeanor, Jack shows genuine tenderness toward Eva, willing to change his course or sacrifice himself for her. While he carries guilt over mercy-killing the Protagonist during Operation Queenslayer, he maintains he would repeat the action if necessary, highlighting his pragmatic nature. His Blood Code, Heimdall, references the Norse god who guarded the rainbow bridge Bifrost, reflecting Jack's role as the watchful guardian of the Successors. Through his position as Successor of the Eye, he maintains vigi
Protagonist (You the Player)
The Protagonist is a Revenant who becomes central to Code Vein's story as both a key figure in Operation Queenslayer and the Successor of the Queen's Blood. Their journey begins when they're turned into a Revenant after the Great Collapse and participate in Operation Queenslayer, where they successfully deliver the killing blow to the Queen. However, this victory comes at a cost - they inadvertently absorb some of the Queen's blood, pushing them toward frenzy and leading Jack Rutherford to attempt a mercy killing. Years later, they awaken in a ravine without memories, where Io discovers and nurses them. After being captured by scavengers and partnered with Oliver Collins to hunt Blood Beads, they meet Louis Amamiya. Following Oliver's transformation into a Lost, they discover their unique ability to purify Vestiges and restore memories, leading them to join Louis's team in their quest to save Vein. The Protagonist possesses exceptional abilities, even by Revenant standards. Their original "Queenslayer" blood code, balanced for exploration and melee combat, was replaced by a unique "Void-Type" code after becoming the Successor of the Blood. This new code allows them to absorb abilities from any blood code and use any weapon efficiently. They demonstrate remarkable resilience, noted by Karen Amamiya, and possess the power to restore bloodsprings, clear miasma, and activate mistles. The game features multiple endings based on how many Successors' memories are restored:
True Ending: Achieved by restoring all Successors' and Io's memories, leading to Io's transformation into a massive Bloodspring Neutral Ending: Requires restoring at least one Successor's memories Bad Ending: Results from restoring no memories, leading to the Protagonist's death
The appearance of a Dyas Pita from God Eater suggests a possible connection between the franchises, despite developers' previous statements about separate universes.
