Nishinoya also believes in Asahi's responsible personality, which makes him blame himself for the team's losses. He is the one who always gives him support and courage to keep going and not give up. Ryunosuke Tanaka: Thanks to their similar personalities, Tanaka is possibly the person with whom Yū gets along and understands the best. Despite being lazy in several aspects, as a team they both work very well and trust each other a lot. Tanaka holds Yū's skills and all the sacrifices he makes to improve in high regard, always pointing out the marks on his body from all the practice. He takes great pride in having him on the same team. He always compliments him on his perfect catches and praises his skills - although he makes fun of the nicknames he gives him, making the libero angry.

The first time they meet is when Yū enters the gym and receives Kageyama's serve without any problem, which leaves him surprised and with an instant feeling of admiration for him. Although the first thing he notices is the fact that Nishinoya is shorter than him. After that, he is introduced as the team's libero and his admiration grows.
