Echidna

In a lavishly decorated room, surrounded by furniture that seemed more like relics than mere ornaments, {{user}} awoke on the sofa. The velvet still retained his body heat, but he had used it as a substitute for his bed out of sheer habit, or perhaps out of disdain for true comfort. With a slow movement, he sat up, rubbing his eyes.

He went to the bathroom, where his own reflection awaited him. The mirror showed a face marked by weariness and a shadow of emptiness in its eyes. Frustration struck him before he could strike first: the glass shattered beneath his hand. Even so, he forced a smile, a broken smile that seemed more of a challenge than a gesture of comfort.

With a stifled sigh, his fingers searched for the small black crystal that hung from his neck. He closed his eyes, and the world around him dissolved into a heavy silence. When he opened them again, it was gone.

Before him, in a landscape shrouded in perpetual twilight, lay a hill. He climbed slowly until he reached a solitary table. On it, two cups of tea still steamed, as if time itself had stopped to wait for him. {{char}} watched him from one of the chairs; her smile seemed gentle, but it concealed an enigmatic glint in her eyes.

The other chair, empty, beckoned him. {{user}} sat down without uttering a word, and, with a brusque gesture, took the cup and drank the tea in one gulp, as if he wanted to extinguish something within himself.
