Duncan Rosenblatt

Duncan Rosenblatt is a presumably Jewish high school teenager with a typical suburban mother who wants him to go to college and a 120-foot-tall, fire-breathing, dragon-like father who wants him to follow in her footsteps by conquering Earth and inheriting the throne of King of the Kaijus; they share custody. Like any other teenager, he struggles to fit in with his peers. Being half-dragon complicates things further. Duncan is completely resigned to his outcast status and has really stopped caring all that much. His strange family arrangement due to being half-Kaiju forces him and his mother to move around a lot. Duncan’s story actually begins during one of his father’s first killing sprees. You see, Duncan’s father was Belloc, a 120-foot-tall, fire-breathing, dragon-like monster who was the King of the Kaijus. Belloc was rampaging through New York, causing massive destruction and fighting the US military, when he stumbled upon a defenseless woman of human descent. For some unknown reason, Margaret Rosenblatt found herself curiously drawn to the massive dragon's power rather than fear. Stranger still, the massive beast was instantly drawn to the mortal woman. Belloc's rampage ended and he fled with the woman. Belloc returned to Kaiju Island and the two were married in a private ceremony. Despite the informality of their relationship and the vast physical differences between the two, their love, or more likely lust, produced a single son whom they christened Duncan Xeres Absalom Wu Fan Cassius Draco Draconus Belloc-Rosenblatt Junior. Although they had conceived a child, the couple's happiness was not destined to last. The exact reasons for their divorce are unknown, but as a result, young Margaret left Belloc with her half-Kaiju, half-human son.

For the next sixteen years, Margaret did her best to raise her son in as normal an environment as possible. Unfortunately, the couple had to move frequently due to Duncan's unusual circumstances. Trouble tended to follow the young hybrid wherever he went. His father continually tested his son's mettle through various intermediaries, after all, in his father's eyes, Duncan was destined to conquer Earth and inherit his father's throne as King of the Kaijus. To help deal with the constant threat of Belloc, Duncan and Margaret were assigned a government agent, Colonel Barnes. Barnes was the official liaison between the U.S. government and the Kingdom of Belloc and was always there to ensure that Belloc abided by the custody agreement that had been worked out between the two parents. Duncan found himself at yet another new school in the Midwest when the first of several life-changing events occurred. While Duncan was distracted by a local bully and his prejudiced principal, his mother was attacked and abducted from their home. Duncan flew into a rage and openly defied Colonel Barnes and flew off to find and rescue his mother. Duncan quickly tracked down his mother's assailant through the use of his supernatural senses. To his surprise, it was a particularly strong Kaiju from the Belloc realm that he had previously faced and forgiven. Duncan engaged the Kaiju in brutal combat unleashing many years of pent up rage upon the creature, culminating in Duncan severely burning it with his flames. In the end, however, for all his rage and anger, Duncan was still unable to kill his foe.

Unfortunately for the Kaiju, Belloc did not possess his son's sense of mercy. Belloc had been secretly observing the battle, watching his son fight with interest. While Duncan showed the creature mercy, Belloc did not. He impaled the wounded creature with his tail, killing it instantly, and left the scene. After ensuring his mother's safety, Duncan paid his father an unexpected visit on Monster Island. Much to Belloc's chagrin, Duncan had correctly deduced that Belloc had staged the kidnapping to once again test his mettle. After confronting his father with his knowledge, Duncan simply and sincerely stated that if he ever endangered his mother again, he would return and kill him. With that, Duncan flew away, not seeing the large grin that spread across his father's inhuman face. Belloc had finally seen a glimpse of the Kaiju he knew lurked within his son. Duncan is a peaceful, caring, and kind boy who has given up hope on ever being able to live a normal life. He goes around with a heavy resentment, always expecting rejection from any new person he meets and bravely accepts his status as an outcast. He usually tends to stick with other people who are on the fringes of society as they tend to be less judgmental. Due to the constant teasing and bullying he has received over the years, Duncan has negligible patience for bullies and the authority figures who let them get away with it. Duncan has a fearsome temper that he finds difficult to control. He knows that the world around him is fragile and that if he loses control for even a moment, someone he truly cares about could die.

Duncan is a tall, broad-shouldered young man with a shock of blond hair and bright amber eyes. That's where his human features end. Duncan has bright orange skin, many small horns protruding from his forehead, five fingers on both his hands and feet, and a pair of small bat wings sprouting just above his shoulder blades. His battle armor consists of a golden harness that covers his shoulder blades and the center of his chest, with a few interlocking plates. Additionally, he has bracers covering his forearms. Outside of that, he wears a pair of tight red pants. When not prepared for battle, Duncan dresses like any other typical teenager. On the final day of the Human-Kaiju War, a woman named Margaret Rosenblatt and a 120-foot Kaiju dragon named Belloc fall in love. They have a son, named Duncan. Sixteen years later, Margaret and Duncan move into a new house, and Duncan prepares for his first day at his new school. However, Duncan fears that his orange skin and appetite for coal will make others think of him as a weirdo and also a prime target for bullies. At school, he quickly develops a crush on a popular girl named Jenna and makes enemies of her ex-boyfriend Troy Adams. In Biology class, Duncan befriends fellow outcasts Kenny and Isabel, who turns out to be a Kaiju-obsessed fangirl who falls for Duncan after he shows her a Gomorradon, a small frog-like Kaiju that he caught while making a fool of himself. Later that night, Troy and his friends break into Jenna's locker and steal the money she saved for the school's homecoming party. The next day, Duncan encounters "Blitz" Barnes, undercover as a gym teacher, and defends Kenny from Troy and his friends in a game of dodgeball.

After the game, Troy confronts Duncan in the locker room, wanting to fight. Duncan avoids the fight and runs off, with Troy and his friends after him. When Troy corners Duncan, he gets angry, but keeps his promise not to fight and simply screams. Duncan yells at him to stop, but lets out his yet-to-be-discovered fire breath. Blitz finds them and orders Troy to go to class or he'll be expelled. Blitz takes Duncan to see Dr. Pytel at the MEGTAF base after discovering that he breathes fire. Later, Blitz straightens things out with Principal Dave to keep Duncan out of trouble. While Troy and Duncan clean up the mess in the cafeteria, Isabel tells Duncan about a party they're all attending and he agrees in hopes of seducing Jenna. At the party, Troy tried to tell Jenna to stay away from Duncan until Troy's dad came and took him home for being grounded. Duncan and Jenna begin to forge a friendship, but she leaves after he talks about Troy's father. Isabel finds him and tells him that the reason Jenna left was because her father was dead. However, things take a turn for the worse when Belloc arrives looking for Duncan. While hiding with Isabel behind a car, Duncan reveals that Belloc is his father. Belloc finds them, and Duncan tells Isabel to run, but before she can escape, Belloc catches her under his tail. Duncan demands that he let her go and lures him away, freeing Isabel. Belloc chases Duncan down and quickly captures him and takes him to the Kaiju's lair in the desert. To Duncan's dismay, he learns that Belloc wants him to be his successor as "King of the Kaiju" and rule over the monsters, though the human world has made him soft when he needs to be ruthless. Belloc then introduces him to the other Kaiju and throws him into a pit of lava. Duncan emerges in his Kaiju form and passes out after spitting fire towards the cave ceiling.

Waking up in the desert, Duncan finds his way to Kenny's trailer. Kenny tells Duncan that Isabel told him about Belloc being his father and asks why he was at the party. Duncan replies that Isabel invited him, causing Kenny to become jealous. Back home, Duncan's human mother assures him that the move and the deal with MEGTAF was to allow him to have a normal life and go to college. Back at school, Duncan is shocked that everyone except Troy now treats him like a celebrity. Isabel tells him it's because he told them how he saved them from Belloc. Duncan then watches Jenna leave for the locker room and leaves. Meanwhile, Jenna opens her locker to find an envelope with the glowing red crystal Duncan found in the Kaiju lair, she sells it to pay for homecoming. Isabel tries to get closer to Duncan, but loses her chance when he and Jenna meet again. Duncan shyly asks Jenna to be his date for homecoming and she accepts. Afterwards, Blitz takes Duncan to see Dr. Pytel again, but makes a slight detour in hopes of finding the Kaiju lair, using Duncan as a "detector" in hopes that he will enter Kaiju form when he gets close. They come under attack from another Kaiju, Duncan fighting back as his father watches as it is the first of many challenges to the throne. Duncan nearly kills the Kaiju, but refuses to do so, Blitz then appears with reinforcements and opens fire on Belloc. Duncan asks them to stop as he is still Duncan's father, they do so and Belloc surrenders. Not because he is weak, but because Belloc thinks that surrendering will keep him close to Duncan, that way he can protect him.

That night, Duncan picks Jenna up for the dance. Kenny and Isabel join only because it is the first dance with a Kaiju alert level. Jenna and Duncan dance, Isabel watches despite Kenny's attempts to make her dance. Troy is elected Homecoming King and Jenna, Queen. Jenna and Troy dance on stage and Isabel decides to dance with Duncan. Kenny's jealousy rises again and he separates them. Kenny yells at Duncan that Isabel only likes him because her father is Belloc. Jenna overhears Kenny and walks away from Duncan, deeply disgusted by his new identity, causing Duncan to storm out in anger and sadness. As Isabel berates Kenny for his actions, two Kaiju named Abbadon and Astraroth appear trashing the place. Duncan appears in his Kaiju form and helps his friends. Taking them out into the desert, he eventually defeats them using his new Kaiju ability of flight and with the help of his mother and Jenna.
