He currently plays for Tōō Academy. He and Kagami become fierce rivals after meeting in the Interhigh preliminaries and the first round of the Winter Cup.

Aomine's brown skin is noticeably darker than most of the other characters. He has dark blue hair, which he wears quite short. His hair is parted on his left side. He often has a frown on his face and dark blue eyes slightly narrowed. Aomine is also very tall and muscular. He wears the red and black Too Academy jersey and has the number 5 on his shirt. His casual summer clothes consist of a loose t-shirt and cargo pants. In winter, he is often seen wearing a light fleece shirt, a black hoodie, and a dark vest.

Before he gained immense strength, Aomine was friendly and kind, often flirting with Kuroko or Kise. Momoi stated that the old Aomine was just like Kagami. But, as time went by and because of his rivals' lack of spirit, Aomine became very strong, caring little for the feelings of others. Aomine is someone with little patience, very fickle in terms of his temperament and may seem like a very carefree and calm person, but if they bother him he can end up physically attacking, the latter often happening when they insult people he has some respect for. Although at first it also happens when they make him lose his patience, as seen when he knees Wakamatsu in the stomach before his first match with Seirin when the latter demands that he go to training. His attitude during matches and during his daily life does not usually vary too much. He is a loner and hates people feeling sorry for him or worrying about him. He tends to keep his feelings to himself, however, he has no qualms about telling others what he thinks of them.

When Aomine was little, he started playing basketball on the streets. As he grew older he started playing street basketball, making his gameplay more flexible. He later attended middle school in Teiko for three years, joined the basketball club and made it onto the first team. One day, Aomine stayed up late to practice more, he decided to go to the other gym because the main one was usually full of other players, on the way he was warned by Momoi (team manager at the time) that the gym was guarded by a ghost, but Aomine didn't believe it, upon entering he heard the sounds of a ball, but he couldn't see anyone there, Kuroko came out of nowhere and introduced himself, scaring Aomine at first, the two started practicing together and became good friends. When Kuroko eventually joined the Teiko team, they formed a great team. In their second year of middle school, Aomine inspired Kise to play basketball and became his training partner. Kise was still a complete rookie, and only had his copying ability. Aomine was obviously stronger than him, but he trained with Kise, only because he loves basketball. He taught Kise and became his mentor/idol. During that time, Aomine also became the ace of the team. The members of the Generation of Miracles weren't originally as strong as they are now, but Aomine was the first to quickly advance above the rest. He suddenly became someone totally different, a strong and fearsome person. He took Teiko's victories to another level, crushing his opponents by doubling and tripling their points, even reaching 200 points. He distanced himself from the rest and started skipping practice more often, when Kuroko confronted him about it, he told her that the game had become boring.

Midorima clarified that Aomine needed a strong opponent, but he never found one. And then he too came to surpass his teammates, becoming too strong for his own good. At that point he started to do only the bare minimum for the team to win. Kuroko tried to convince him otherwise by stating that his rival came with the will to beat him and Aomine believed him for a while, but his skill grew even more and seeing his opponents mentally crushed, he changed his mind. He told Kuroko that he respected his thinking, but that he would never find a worthy opponent. Aomine came to think that no one could match him. That is when his current arrogance originated. After graduating from Teiko, he joined Too because they would give him freedom as long as he was on their team. He participates in the Ultimate Camp to pass the time.

Aomine's team won the preliminary finals without any problems. Aomine makes his first appearance in during the finals in Block A of the Interhigh preliminaries, Seirin vs Shutoku. Momoi meets him in the gymnasium, where he is slowing down while the rest are having the preliminary finals. She informs him about the match between Midorima and Kuroko, with Momoi wholeheartedly rooting for Kuroko. Aomine says that it could be either of them who wins. After the match, Momoi calls Midorima on his cell phone, which Aomine takes away from her to talk to him. Midorima warns him to be careful around Seirin. Aomine replies that it's ridiculous and concludes that the only one who can beat him is himself.

A natural talent for basketball, Aomine is literally a "monster" in this sport, he has an unusual speed, is extremely strong, skillful and agile ball control, can score from any position, changes his speed and direction at will. In terms of skill, he is the most talented player of the Generation of Miracles, but not the strongest since Akashi, his captain in Teiko, is the closest player to achieving perfection in all terms of the sport. Crossover: Thanks to his street basketball game, Aomine is able to perform unusual moves when playing, such as feints, unnecessary plays, and even shooting at the most unexpected moments. His agile and unconventional style makes him a fearsome and unstoppable player. Animal Instinct: It is a very effective defensive state in which he can inflict pressure on the opponent, making any attack difficult for them, and even steal the ball from them with a simple movement. Shapeless Shot: This is Aomine's special shot which allows him to shoot in an unconventional way from almost any side of the court, making it difficult for the opponent when covering him. His game is very versatile. Aside from his ball handling and speed, Aomine can get an unusual shot from any position on the court. One of his shapeless shots is where he lowers his stance to evade the defense, he shoots just when his body is almost parallel to the ground. Zone: It is a very acute state of concentration in which Aomine releases 100% of his potential. His strength, speed and dexterity increase considerably, in this way no one can stop him, unless the opponent is in the zone as well.

Aomine's name, like several characters related to Teiko Middle School, is related to a color that represents him, in this case Blue (青, Ao). According to the characters of the Bible: It was said that Aomine's type is girls with big breasts. If Aomine had an alternative job, he would be a police officer. His favorite food is the Teriyaki burger. In agility he is the best of the entire miracle generation. His specialty is catching small animals such as cicadas and crayfish, and he writes his own autobiography. As stated by Momoi, her shoe size is similar to Kagami's, 29.5 cm. In fact, they both wear the same brand of shoes: Air Jordan. Aomine bears a certain resemblance to Keigo Atobe, the latter a character from the manga/anime Prince of Tennis, in terms of arrogance and all-round skills. Furthermore, they also share the same voice actor, being Junichi Suwabe. In the Replace Novel Imayoshi notes that everything Aomine writes is in katakana. He holds the record for scoring 82 points in a single game, surpassing Kobe Bryant's mark by one point. In a Q&A section in the manga, it is revealed that: Aomine was 1.75 cm tall when he entered Teiko. He is an only child. Aomine hates bees (because he was stung by one). He once placed a frog on Momoi's head and made her cry, because she doesn't like frogs. Aomine's best subject (among his terrible grades) is Japanese history. He hates goya, as it has a bitter taste. Similar to Kagami's nickname Baka-gami (idiot-Kagami), Aomine has been nicknamed by fans as Aho-mine (dumb-Aomine).
