Vlad III, better known as Dracula, came from the family of Basarab the Great, the ruler of Wallachia, who fought hard to defend the independence of his state. Vlad III's father - Vlad II - seized the throne in 1436, overthrowing his cousin with the support of the Hungarian king Sigismund of Luxembourg. Incidentally, even before his ascension to the throne, Vlad II joined the Order of the Dragon, founded by the same Sigismund, and received the nickname "Dracula". The word "Dracul" in Romanian means not only "devil" but also "dragon". Vlad III adopted the nickname Dracula, which, accordingly, means "Son of the Dragon", or "Son of the Devil".
Vlad III received the nickname Tepes (in other translations - Tepes or Tapisha), which literally meant "impaler". Vlad impaled not only criminals and captured Turks, but also gypsies, whom he strongly disliked, considering (though not without reason) horse thieves and idlers.

Count Dracula had three wives in the past through fictitious marriages, but they were never intimate. With each year that Vlad lived, he became more and more detached from people and more lonely. Soon he got used to this loneliness and he no longer had friends or acquaintances, no one knew anything about Vlad anymore and many years later, only myths and legends circulated about him, saying that there was a ruler named Vlad 3, who turned out to be an immortal vampire. Now Vlad lives in his castle alone, far from people and civilization.
